Ive been approached by various cult members and it's usually always "oh we have a university event and we're inviting blah blah blah" Anyone actually went for these events before? Would it be safe for me to go and attend it? I have 100% confidence I'll never be converted into their cult.

I went to one near Hongdae that was supposedly a "cultural exchange" event. It was basically a small group of people taking turns talking about their life struggles, followed by a guy giving a very rehearsed speech about finding purpose. The free food was the only good part, but they definitely tried to get contact info and invite you to a more private meeting afterward.

If you're set on going, I'd say it's safe as long as you keep your wits about you and don't share anything personal. Just be ready for the follow-up texts and calls that'll come for weeks after. I'd recommend skipping it honestly, the curiosity isn't worth the hassle of getting ghosted by new "friends" when you stop responding.

honestly you're prob safer than you think if you just treat it like a free meal and a story. i went to one near sinchon that was pitched as a "self-development workshop" and it was just 20 people in a rented room above a cafe listening to some guy talk about his mom's illness and how he found "the truth". they passed around a sign-up sheet for a weekend retreat that cost like 50k won but nobody pressured anyone when i said no. the bibimbap was decent though

yeah i went once out of curiosity, it was just a lot of vague positivity and free food tbh. not dangerous but super boring

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
