I've been working with a tutor on italki for about six months now and it's been night and day compared to self-study. The biggest thing was finally understanding when to use 을/를 versus 이/가 without just guessing. If you're in Seoul and want in-person, there's a language exchange at the Global Center in Jongno that's free, but a dedicated tutor will actually correct your mistakes instead of just nodding along.

honestly if you're serious about learning Korean and not just doing the tourist thing, getting a proper tutor makes a huge difference. Duolingo and apps only get you so far, especially with grammar particles and honorifics. I've seen people struggle with the -요 and -니다 endings for months on their own. A good tutor will push you to actually speak, not just memorize vocab lists.

tbh the main thing with a tutor is consistency more than anything else. I did the self study thing for like a year and could read fine but couldnt hold a conversation to save my life. Once I started doing 30 min sessions 3x a week with someone who actually pushed me to respond in real time, things clicked way faster. If you're in Hongdae area there's a few study cafes that rent rooms by the hour for like 5,000 won, good spot for zoom calls if your place is too noisy.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
