Been to a few spots/shopping districts and havent seen anything so far. Is it not a thing in seoul? Seems like two very cool mythical creatures to do stuff with

If you want to see haetae in a less touristy spot, walk over to Jongno-gu Office near Gwanghwamun. There's a big stone one sitting out front that most people walk right past. For dokkaebi, head to the Hongdae free market on weekends, sometimes the indie artists there sell screen printed dokkaebi designs on t-shirts and tote bags that feel way more modern than the traditional carvings.

you can see real haetae statues around gyeongbokgung palace grounds, theres a famous one right in front of the main gate. that ones prob the most iconic spot. for dokkaebi stuff, check out insadong's side alleys, theres a few little craft shops near ssamziegil that sell wooden dokkaebi masks. way cheaper than the tourist trap places in myeongdong. also the national folk museum on the palace grounds has some old dokkaebi carvings in their permanent exhibit, free with your palace ticket

Haetae are actually all over the government district near Gwanghwamun. The Supreme Court building has a couple of big bronze ones out front, and there's even a small one on the roof of the Seoul Metropolitan Library across from City Hall. For dokkaebi, check out the Namdaemun Market area, specifically the section near Hoehyeon Station exit 5. There's a alley of traditional gift shops there that carries clay dokkaebi figurines for around 10,000 won, way less than the tourist prices in Insadong.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
