I'm 27 years old and have been working in the film industry in Sweden for a few years as a lighting assistant. I was wondering if anyone are aware of any filmmaking communities in Seoul? I'm not looking to keep filmmaking as a career but I really do love making films with people, I've shot a few short films myself back here in Stockholm.

I thought it might be a great opportunity to meet new people that I also might share an interest with. It's just hard to gauge where I could meet people in a new city!

honestly you should check out the seoul film collective on facebook, they're pretty active and do monthly meetups at different spots around town. last one was at a bar in yeonnam called station, it was mostly expats and korean filmmakers just hanging out and talking shop

the indie film scene here is more about networking over drinks than formal events. if you're into short films, the seoul international women's film festival in august has volunteer opportunities too, good way to meet people without the pressure of a career thing

also worth looking into the korean society of cinematographers, they sometimes have workshops in english. but honestly most of the real connections happen at the afterparties of screenings, just show up and talk to people

sogang is a good spot for this actually, you're right near hongdae which has a pretty active indie film scene. check out seoul independent film festival or the dmz docs - they often have meetups and networking events that aren't super formal. there's also a cafe called cinephile in mangwon that does regular screenings and filmmaker talks, it's a relaxed vibe where people just chat after

also worth hitting up the korean film archive near sangam, they have a library and free screenings plus a bulletin board where folks post crew calls. the film community here is tight but welcoming if you show up consistently, just don't expect swedish efficiency with timing lol

You might want to check out the Seoul Artist Collective on Instagram, they do meetups that are pretty chill and not just film focused.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
