Anyone interested in going out to itaewon/hongdae tonight?

I know this is super last minute but my plans for today flaked :/

It's also a bit late to go to any language exchanges/meetups because they all start 7-8pm.

Anyone interested in going out tonight? Would prefer younger (I'm 20 from nyc) but open to all ages.

ngl if you're still looking for people, the bars in kyungridan are a solid middle ground between itaewon and hongdae. it's like a 10 min walk from itaewon station and the crowd is mostly early 20s koreans and expats who got tired of the main drag. there's a spot called the fountain that does 5k won pints of local beer till 11pm, way cheaper than the clubs. just be warned the streets get packed around 11 so if you want a table you gotta get there before then

honestly itaewon's prob your best bet for a late night since most places there stay open till 4-5am even on weekdays. if u want a younger crowd try the bars around the Hamilton hotel side, lots of international students and military folks out on a friday. just a heads up some of the clubs near the main street charge cover after 10pm, like around 20k won

tbh hongdae might be more your vibe since you're 20, the crowd skews younger than itaewon these days. if you head to the area near the playground station exit, there's a row of bars that are pretty chill and don't get too rowdy till midnight. just be aware the subway stops running around midnight so you'll prob have to cab it back or catch a night bus

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
