honestly your best bet is gonna be the Polish Kitchen in Itaewon, right near the Hamilton Hotel. they do pierogi ruskie pretty regularly but its more of a pop-up/small batch thing so you gotta check their instagram first

if that doesnt work, theres a russian grocery store called Russkiy Dom in Dongdaemun that sells frozen pierogi (varenyky technically) and theyre pretty decent. just fry em up with some onion and sour cream

fwiw i think Polish Kitchen is closed on mondays so keep that in mind if ur craving hits today

There's a small Eastern European spot called Minsk in Hongdae that sometimes has pierogi on their menu, though it's more Belarusian-style. They're not always available so you'd want to call ahead, but when they have them they're handmade and pretty legit.

If you're up for a trek, the Russian House in Gwangjang Market has frozen varenyky you can buy and cook at home. Their selection changes week to week but they usually stock a few varieties with potato and cheese filling.

oh man pierogi cravings are the worst in seoul tbh. i found some frozen ones at the supermarket in Itaewon called Kim's Club, they got a small eastern european section with pelmeni and pierogi. not super authentic but it hits the spot when you need it

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
