Hi:) We are going to fly to Seoul on Tuesday night and have around 7 days there (first time in SK ❤️❤️) We'd like to stay in 2 different districts to see different perspectives - Any 2 that you'd recommend? ❤️ Also, is there any taxi app like grab? Thank

Jongno and Hongdae get recommended a lot but I'd actually pair Jongno with Gangnam's west side, around Sinsa or Apgujeong Rodeo. You get the old palace district and then the polished, tree-lined, slightly showy Seoul that locals dress up for. Garosu-gil is a nice afternoon wander and the food around there is a different register than the student stuff near Hongdae. Kakao T is the taxi app, yes, and you can pay the driver directly in the car if your foreign card won't register in the app.

For a first trip I'd split it between Jongno (the old city, walkable to Insadong, Bukchon, Gyeongbokgung) and Hongdae or Yeonnam if you want younger energy and late nights. Myeongdong is convenient but feels like a tourist corridor after a day or two, I'd skip staying there. Kakao T is the app everyone uses, Uber works too but it just calls Kakao taxis underneath, so just get Kakao T. Foreign cards sometimes fail on it, so having some cash or a T-money card helps as backup.

staying in 2 spots is smart. maybe base urself in seongsu for the cafe/warehouse vibe & ikseondong for the hanok alleys, both feel way more local than the obvious picks

kakao T is the move but also just use the subway, its cheap & goes everywhere, taxis get pricey sitting in traffic

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 15 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
