Is it safe to travel to Seoul with the balloon debacle happening?

I don't want to get shit on my head I don't want to get shit on my head

yeah it's fine. the balloon stuff is mostly north of the han river and even then it's not like they're dropping stuff on crowded streets. i live in hongdae and haven't seen a single balloon or trash from them. the city is still buzzing with tourists and locals going about their day. if you're really paranoid just avoid the northern edge like suyu or eunpyeong and you won't even think about it

you're fine honestly. the balloons are mostly north korea propaganda leaflets and trash, but they land in border areas and sometimes northern seoul. if you stay in central seoul like hongdae or myeongdong you won't even notice it. saw some on the news near incheon airport but that's way out. just check the weather and don't plan a picnic near the dmz and you're good

Totally get the concern but it's really not something you need to worry about. The balloons are a political stunt and most of the junk lands in fields north of the city or gets carried out toward the west coast. I've been in Gwangjang Market and Insadong all week and saw nothing, just the usual street food crowds and ajummas selling socks. If you're staying south of the Han River in places like Gangnam or Jamsil you're even further from the action.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
