Rec for bar near Hongik?

Visiting Seoul for the first time and just had an awesome walk around the Hongik area. Any recommendations for a spot to grab a beer with a laptop? It's such a nice day and would love to people watch… Visiting Seoul for the first time and just had an awesome walk around the Hongik area. honestly for laptop + people watching in hongdae, try the starbucks on the corner of yanghwa-ro and wausan-ro. yeah it's a chain but the second floor has those floor-to-ceiling windows right over the main intersection so you get the full chaos of street performers and students crossing. outlets are hit or miss but they've got decent wifi and you can nurse an iced americano for a few hours without anyone bothering you

If you want to people watch with a laptop, grab a window seat at Coffee Libre on Wausan-ro. It's a specialty coffee spot that stays quiet enough to work but has a great view of the street action around the main shopping strip. Just know they don't have power outlets everywhere, so bring a charged battery.

tbh skip the main streets and head to the side alley near sangsu station. there's a tiny place called vinyl that has outdoor seating and people filter by all day. laptop friendly enough if you grab a corner table but the vibe is more chill than the hongdae chaos

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
