Is there anywhere I can get some real American hot dogs? Not the "sausage" that looks like but are definitely *not* hot dogs.

If you're near Sangsu, hit up The Famous Burger. They do a proper all-beef hot dog with the casing snap you're missing, not the sad flour-based sausage things you find at convenience stores. It's in the alley behind the main street, next to the vintage clothing shop with the red awning. The bun is steamed, the dog is griddled, and they actually sell it with sauerkraut which is hard to find around here.

tbh the best approximation I've found is at Vatos in Itaewon, they do a gringo dog with jalapenos and actual beef sausage that tastes closer to what you'd get back home. not exactly street cart style but it scratches the itch. also if you're near hongdae, The Wolfhound has their irish dog which is closer to a proper frank than the korean sausages. just don't expect a dirty water dog from a cart, that's not really a thing here

costco actually sells legit american hot dogs in their food court if you know someone with a membership. the ones at the seoul station branch are the same as what you'd get in the states, just with a different bun situation. also worth checking out the foreign food section at emart traders for packs of oscar mayer or hebrew national to cook at home

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
