Now I'm searching for other options for my upcoming trip, but i mostly see the same 5 places recommended by influencers. now i wonder, do i even need to go to a foreign friendly hairsalon? can't i just go to any salon? i dont want to cut my hair, just wash and style (planning to show a reference photo). I imagine the problem is the language, but to be honest at ParkJunBeautyLab they also didnt speak english, we were using google translate.

any opinion?

tbh you can just walk into any decent salon in hongdae or sinchon and show them a photo, that's what most koreans do too. the foreigner places mark up prices like crazy for the same service. just avoid the super cheap 5000 won wash places near the station and you'll be fine

the only real issue is if you want something super specific like a perm or color, then the language barrier might matter more. for just wash and style with a reference pic, google translate and pointing works fine. i've done it a few times and they always get it right

honestly just go to any neighborhood salon that's not in the main tourist drag. i live near sangsu and my regular place charges 15,000 for wash and blow dry, they just handed me a tablet with style options and i pointed. the foreigner ones in myeongdong are charging 3x for the same thing because they know tourists don't know better. just search "miseonjang" or "jumeok" on naver maps near where you're staying, those are the standard chain salons that locals use and they're everywhere

yeah you're overthinking it, wash and style with a pic is like the easiest thing to communicate anywhere. the only real difference at a non-foreigner salon is you might have to wait a bit longer if it's busy and they don't have a dedicated english speaker handling bookings. i've been to a few random places in hongdae and even one near euljiro where the ajumma just nodded, looked at my phone, and got to work. ended up paying like 25,000 won for wash and blowdry vs the 50k+ at those influencer spots. just walk into one that looks busy with locals and has a clean window display, you'll be fine

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
