Korean souvenirs?

My first time in Korea and I'm loving it. I am usually bad at bringing back souvenirs, what would be the most typical Korean thing I could bring back home (I'm from Europe). I'll be around until Friday so I still have sometime to find something, I am in the Gangnam neighborhood. BTW, I'm a dude and will get married in a bit, if this helps with ideas.

fwiw the wedding duck thing is nice but if you want something more practical and dude-friendly, hit up the underground shops at Gangnam Station. there's a bunch of streetwear spots that sell these patch jackets with traditional Korean embroidery on denim or bomber styles. they run about 50-80k won and look way cooler than the touristy stuff. your fiancee might even steal it tbh

also since you're getting married, korean norigae knots are a solid gift for her. they're those silk tassel things that hang from wedding robes. you can find handmade ones at the Ssamziegil mall in Insadong for 15-25k. way more personal than random magnets

honestly for a wedding gift to yourself or something for the future wife, consider a traditional Korean wedding duck set. theyre called wedding ducks or 원앙 (wonang) and symbolize fidelity. you can find decent wooden ones at Insadong but there's a small hanbok shop in Sinsa-dong near Garosu-gil that sells modern ceramic ones for around 30,000 won. way more unique than a t-shirt

if that's too much, just grab some 고추장 (gochujang) paste from a local mart. you can't get the real stuff in Europe and it's like 3,000 won for a tub. your future in-laws will think you're a chef if u make bibimbap with it

if you're near gangnam just pop into Hangangjin station area, there's a ginseng shop called Korean Red Ginseng that sells those fancy gift boxes. it's like the go-to gift for dads and future in-laws here, prob costs 50-100k but it's super premium and you can't get real korean red ginseng like that in europe

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
