Anyone in hongdae area interested in hanging out?
yeonnam's a good call but if you're staying in hongdae proper, try the alleys behind the main street near sangsu station exit 4. there's a tiny place called slowmama that does this amazing black rice cake and the owner's really friendly. also the vinyl street in hongdae has some cute cafes that aren't as crowded because tourists don't know about them yet, the one with the yellow door has good drip coffee for like 4천원
hongdae's fun but tbh the cafes get packed on weekends. if u want a chill spot try walking over to yeonnam-dong instead, it's quieter and there's this place called cafe onions that's got a nice old house vibe. the gimbap place on the corner there is solid too, like 3천원 for a roll
If you're open to something a little different, walk toward Hapjeong station instead. There's a stretch near Exit 3 with a few wine bars and dessert places that stay pretty calm even on Saturday afternoons. I like a spot called Saru for their matcha tiramisu, it's not sweet like most places here. Also the fried chicken place two doors down does a soy garlic version that's way better than the chains.
Hopworks brewery: worth a visit in 2026?
Hopworks is in Mangwon, not the center, so build the trip around that neighborhood rather than a whole afternoon. They do pints and flights but no real tours. Go early evening, then eat around Mangwon Market after.
Agreed on skipping the tour, though Thursday and Friday evenings get loud after 8 so aim earlier. The alley behind the taproom has a decent gopchang place if the market crowds put you off.
Sat nights are worse, aim for a weekday
Worth adding: they close the kitchen early, so pints first then dinner. The 6 bus drops you a block from the taproom if you're coming from Hongdae.
Kitchen actually stops food around 9 but they'll keep pouring til close, so eat before you settle in.
The 6 also stops right by the Mangwon-dong community center, so you can hop off there and walk two minutes.
Fwiw line 6 also runs straight to World Cup Stadium, so you can catch a baseball game before the pints.
