where to meet people in seoul?

just for a hangout, a new friend , a date anyone? any tips for a solo traveller? ps- I'm not on Facebook so I can't join those groups. just for a hangout, a new friend , a date anyone? any tips for a solo traveller? ps- I'm not on Facebook so I can't join those groups.

honestly just go to hongdae on a weekend night and sit at one of the outdoor tables near the main street. tons of solo travelers and locals just drinking and chatting, people are pretty open to striking up conversation if you're not weird about it. the gyeongui line forest park nearby is also good for a more chill daytime vibe, i've met people just sitting on a bench reading or sketching.

for dating apps, i'd skip tinder and try bumble or even the local one called Amanda, just be upfront that you're visiting. but tbh the best way is to just go to a hof (like a korean pub) in hongdae or hapjeong and chat with the staff or people next to you. the beer is cheap and koreans are curious about foreigners so they'll usually start talking if you seem approachable.

yeah hongdae is solid but if you want something more lowkey try the foreigner bars in itaewon like Thursday Party or Wolfhound. solo travelers end up there all the time and it's easy to just grab a seat at the bar and start talking to whoever's next to you. also check out language exchange meetups at places like Glam in hongdae during the week, they're usually on instagram and you don't need facebook to find them

If you're into live music, check out the indie shows in the Euljiro or Mullae areas. There are small underground venues like Soseoul or AOR where people are super friendly and often hang around after sets, and it's way easier to start a conversation when you're both watching a band you like. I've had random strangers just share their soju or invite me to join their table after a show.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
