Wide-brimmed hats? πŸ“

Where can I find cool, wide-brimmed hats in Seoul? Where can I find cool, wide-brimmed hats in Seoul?

Namdaemun Market has a few accessory shops that carry wide-brimmed hats, especially in the section closer to Hoehyeon Station exit 5. The vendors there tend to stock more structured felt hats and sun hats compared to the floppy tourist ones, and you can negotiate a bit on price if you buy two. For something more fashion-forward, check out the multi-brand stores in Seongsu-dong like Ofr Seoul, they usually have a rack of interesting wide brims from Korean indie brands.

u should hit up the shops in Insadong, not the touristy main drag but the side alleys near Ssamziegil. there's a tiny place called Hattore (I think) that does handmade wool and straw ones, kinda pricey like 40-50k but the quality is legit. also saw some cool bucket-hat hybrids at the Namdaemun market stalls near the gate 5 entrance, negotiable if u grab a few

If you're after something a bit more modern and less vintage, check out the shops in Samcheong-dong. There's a small store called Hats On near Anguk Station that carries structured wide-brims in neutral tones, mostly wool or cotton blends for around 50,000 won. The owner is usually around and can help you adjust the fit, which is nice since not all heads are the same shape.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
