Where can I watch Formula 1 in Tokyo? Sports bar ?

Looking to watch the upcoming game. Can recommend any with English commentary around Shinjuku/ Shibuya ? Looking to watch the upcoming game. Can recommend any with English commentary around Shinjuku/ Shibuya ?

The Hobgoblin in Shibuya is your best bet for F1, they show every race live with English commentary and the crowd actually knows what's happening. It gets packed for the European races on Sunday nights, so get there at least 30 minutes early if you want a seat near the screens. If you're closer to Shinjuku, try the Sports Bar & Grill in the Shinjuku Center Building, it's a bit more spacious but the sound is sometimes turned down for the pub crowd. For the truly dedicated, check out the F1 Cafe in Akasaka, it's a bit further but they have sim rigs and proper race atmosphere, though it's more of a reservation spot for big races.

hobgoblin's the usual shout but honestly for the japanese gp weekend places get insane. if u just want the race without the pub crowd, try the hub in golden gai, tiny but they'll put it on a tablet for u if u ask nice. or go to a sports bar in ebisu like the aldgate, more expat locals than tourists, sound on and they take it seriously. shinjuku's fine but the screens are small unless u're at the center building one. also check the race time, if it's a night race in europe it's morning here, some bars won't open early for it so call first.

If the race is on a Sunday night European time, don't sleep on the T.G.I. Friday's in Shinjuku's Lumine Est building. It sounds odd, but the basement level has a dedicated sports viewing area with big screens and they'll flip to the English feed if you ask at the counter. It's way less chaotic than the dedicated pubs, and you can actually get a seat without staking it out an hour early.

Also worth a look is The Aldgate in Ebisu, mentioned before, but specifically for their upstairs area. Sunday evening races there tend to have a quieter crowd upstairs, so you get the sound on and a clear view of the screen without fighting the bar noise downstairs.

One thing nobody's said yet: check the actual race start time before committing. A lot of the European rounds start at 22:00 or later here, and some smaller bars close before the chequered flag. For those late ones, the Hub in Golden Gai is a wild card, they'll stay open as long as people are drinking, but you might be watching on a phone propped against a bottle. Call first, seriously.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
