Karaj trip in 5 months, what's a realistic budget?
one thing nobody flagged yet is the metro line 5 situation from Tehran, if u land at IKIA the cheapest way into Karaj is metro from Shahed station then transfer, total maybe 50k toman, way less than a 2 to 3 million toman Snapp from the airport. but it stops running around 10 or 11pm so a late landing kills that plan
also the metro inside Karaj only really covers the north south spine, so if ur staying somewhere like Mehrshahr or Mohammadshahr ur on Snapp daily regardless, budget 1.5 to 2 million toman for a week of rides
and bring a couple hundred in cash for the bazaar side of Fardis if u go, lots of stalls there are cash only & the atm queues on weekends are brutal
You'll want to separate your budget into what you pay before you land and what you spend on the ground. Flights and any hotel deposit you book now are locked at today's rate, but everything else, the taxis, the meals, the SIM, gets priced in toman when you arrive, and that's the part inflation wrecks. A week of cheap eats plus two nice dinners and daily Snapp rides probably lands somewhere around 8 to 12 million toman for one person once you strip out lodging, though I'd add a 20 percent cushion on top.
One thing the other replies didn't mention: Karaj's nicer restaurants cluster around the Chalous Road side and up toward Kalak, and those run higher than central spots, so if your "couple of nicer meals" are up there, budget more. Also keep some dollars or euros in cash to change at an exchange office rather than relying on foreign cards, which mostly don't work here.
If you're not locked into a hotel, look at staying in Gohardasht or around Azadegan rather than central Karaj. Apartments there run noticeably cheaper and you're still a short Snapp ride from most of the city. Budget for two extra things people forget: a SIM card with a decent data package, since you'll be leaning on Snapp and the metro app constantly, and cash for the smaller shops that don't take cards. Five months out, I'd watch the toman rate monthly and top up your savings as it moves, because a fixed number today won't mean the same thing by the time you land.

For the dam hike, go early on day two, by 9 AM the trail gets crowded with families and the parking fills up fast. If you have an extra hour on day one, the art gallery often has a small printmaking workshop in the back room that's open to watch.
ngl this is a solid plan for a first timer but i'd swap day 3 morning for the karaj flower market near mirdamad square instead of the caravanserai. it's open from like 6 am to noon and you can get huge bunches of fresh tulips for 50,000 IRR. way more alive than the craft stalls tbh. also the botanical garden greenhouse gets hot as hell by 2 pm so go early if you can
honestly the day 2 taxi rental price seems about right but make sure you haggle it down to 1,200,000 if youre going on a weekday, drivers inflate it for tourists. also the Gachsar Palace gardens are nice but the real gem is the small tea house hidden behind the main building, they serve this herbal mix with dried barberries that hits different after a hike. one thing the guide kinda glosses over is how dusty the dam trail gets in summer, bring a scarf or mask for sure
