πŸ›• Day 2 Morning: Hampi Day Trip
Take an early bus from Bellary Bus Stand to Hampi, which departs at 6:30 AM and takes about 2.5 hours (fare around 80 rupees). Alternatively, hire a taxi for 2,500 rupees round trip. In Hampi, explore the Virupaksha Temple and the Hampi Bazaar area. Start with the temple, which opens at 8:00 AM.

🍽️ Day 2 Afternoon: Hampi Lunch
For lunch in Hampi, try the Mango Tree Restaurant near the Virupaksha Temple, which serves Indian and continental dishes from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Another good choice is the Laughing Buddha Restaurant on the riverbank, open until 4:00 PM. After lunch, visit the Vijaya Vittala Temple and its famous stone chariot, about 2 kilometers away.

πŸŒ… Day 2 Evening: Return and Relax
Catch the last bus back to Bellary at 5:30 PM from Hampi Bus Stand, arriving around 8:00 PM. If you hired a taxi, you can stay for sunset at Matanga Hill, which offers panoramic views. Back in Bellary, have a late dinner at Hotel Swagath on Infantry Road, open until 10:30 PM.

Good effort putting this together, the fort timing is about right. One thing though, the District Museum on Fort Road was shut for renovation when I passed through in October, so call ahead or ask at the hotel before you build the afternoon around it. Municipal Park nearby is a decent fallback, and the old Jain basadi ruins out past Kappagal Road are worth a detour if you have spare time.

The itinerary's pacing is right. One add: the Sandur Manganese hills area north of town is a quiet half day if you want a break from temples, and the drive past the mines is oddly scenic. Carry water, nothing much on that route.

Appreciate the detail, but double check the Hampi bus timing since the first one from the Bellary stand often leaves closer to 7.

🏰 Explore Bellary Fort
Start your visit at the Bellary Fort, a 16th-century structure perched on a granite hill. The fort has two parts: the upper fort, built by Hanumappa Nayaka, and the lower fort, added by Hyder Ali. Entry costs around β‚Ή25 for Indians and β‚Ή300 for foreigners, and it's open from 8 am to 6 pm. The climb is steep but rewards you with panoramic views of the city and the surrounding hills.

πŸ›• Visit Historic Temples
Bellary is home to several ancient temples that are worth exploring. The Kalleswara Temple, located near the fort, features intricate carvings and a peaceful atmosphere. Another must-visit is the Durgamma Temple, dedicated to the goddess Durga, which comes alive during the Dasara festival. Most temples are open from early morning until evening, and entry is free.

πŸ›οΈ Discover Local Museums
The Bellary District Museum, situated on Station Road, houses a collection of artifacts from the region's history, including sculptures and coins. It's open from 10 am to 5 pm, except on Mondays and public holidays. For art lovers, the nearby Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum offers interactive exhibits, though it's a bit further away in Bangalore.

🌳 Relax in Nature Parks
Escape the city bustle at the Bellary Municipal Park, a green space with walking paths and a small lake. It's a popular spot for morning walks and evening strolls, open from 6 am to 8 pm. For a more adventurous outing, head to the Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary, about 50 km from Bellary, where you can spot sloth bears and other wildlife. The sanctuary is open from 6 am to 6 pm, and entry fees are nominal.

πŸ› Savor Local Cuisine
Bellary's food scene is a mix of Karnataka and Andhra flavors. Don't miss the traditional Jolada Rotti (sorghum flatbread) served with spicy curries at local eateries like Hotel Shanthi Sagar on Station Road. For a quick bite, try the mirchi bajji at roadside stalls near the bus stand. Most restaurants open around 7 am for breakfast and close by 10 pm.

πŸ›οΈ Shop at Local Markets
The bustling Bellary Market, near the old bus stand, is the place to go for fresh produce, spices, and handmade crafts. It's especially lively on Sundays when farmers bring their goods. For souvenirs, check out the handicraft stores on Gandhi Nagar Main Road, where you can find traditional Lambani embroidery and metalwork. Bargaining is expected, so brush up on your negotiation skills.

🚌 Getting Around Bellary
Bellary is well-connected by road and rail. The city has a railway station with trains to Bangalore, Hyderabad, and other major cities. Within the city, auto-rickshaws are the most convenient way to get around, with fares starting at β‚Ή30 for short distances. Local buses also ply frequently, but they can get crowded during peak hours.

πŸ“… Best Time to Visit
The ideal time to visit Bellary is from October to February when the weather is pleasant and comfortable for sightseeing. Summers (March to May) can be extremely hot, with temperatures soaring above 40Β°C, so avoid outdoor activities during the day. The monsoon season (June to September) brings moderate rainfall, making the landscape lush but some roads may be slippery.

arrow_drop_up 11 arrow_drop_down

good writeup. one thing missing: the sandur kambli weaving co-op about 30km out, handloom blankets at source & cheaper than any city shop. buses from the main stand leave roughly hourly, morning ones are less packed

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

cowl bazaar road has better lambani embroidery prices than gandhi nagar, worth the detour
