Salah El Din Citadel tickets 2026: buy online or at gate?

fmd_goodSalah El Din Citadel · #tickets #cairo #citadel
Coming to Cairo in March and want to see the Salah El Din Citadel. Can you buy tickets at the gate or is it better to book online in 2026? Also how much time should I budget for the whole complex? Gate tickets are fine, the queue moves quickly and I don't think online booking saves much hassle there. Give it three hours minimum, the mosque and the view over Islamic Cairo are the real draw and the military museum eats time if you let it.

The military museum closes around 3:30pm so hit the Muhammad Ali Mosque first, and bring cash since the card machine is often down.

Last time I went the card reader worked but only for local cards, so foreign cards still need cash.

Cash machine by the entrance gate usually works.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Agree, though the ticket window closes before the site does.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Yeah ticket sales stop like an hour before closing

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

Right, so aim to be inside a good hour before closing, otherwise you're rushed through before they stop selling.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Three hours sounds about right, though the police museum in the corner is skippable if you're short on time.

Skip the military museum entirely if you're short on time and walk the outer walls instead, that rampart loop with the city sprawl below is worth more than any exhibit.

Al-Nasir Muhammad Mosque, quieter than the main one.

Al Nasr Rd taxi scam in Cairo 2026?

fmd_goodAl Nasr Rd · #airport #taxi #scam
landed at the airport and the driver said Al Nasr Rd was closed so he had to take a big detour and charge me double. is that a real thing or did I get played? anyone else had this happen on the way in landed at the airport and the driver said Al Nasr Rd was closed so he had to take a big detour and charge me double. is that a real thing or did I get played? anyone else had this happen on the way in

sounds like the classic airport detour line tbh. Al Nasr Rd does have closures sometimes but a driver can't know before you're in teh car. next time just use the Careem app from arrivals, fixed fare, no arguing.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

uber's fixed fare from T3 is the other option

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

yeah the airport is the worst spot for it, just walk past the guys inside the terminal & grab a car from the lot

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

The airport's own limo desk charges a flat rate too.
