March is still shoulder season so queues at the ticket window are usually short, maybe ten minutes around opening at 8. The one thing I'd plan around is the walk up from the parking area, it's steep and there's little shade. Bring small notes for the entrance fee, card readers there can be temperamental.

good shout on the cash, those card machines really are hit or miss

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

fair point on teh shade, the walk really does get to you. honestly i'd just carry water too, maybe a bit more than u think you need

Gate works fine, mosque included.

Mosque is included, sure, but the El Gawhara Palace and the military museum are separate, so don't flash your ticket at every door expecting in.

Right, though the Palace of Justice needs its own pass.

Worth adding that you'll pass through a security check before the ticket window, so allow a few extra minutes. Also the Citadel view over Islamic Cairo is best late afternoon if you can shift your half day.

tbh apps are pretty common now but a lot of people still meet thru family or friend circles, the mashroub coffee meetup thing felt more formal than I expected

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

yeah the family intro thing is still huge, and i'd add that the formal vibe you mentioned is kinda the point, it's basically a supervised first meeting

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Supervised, but usually at her parents' place not a cafe

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

fair but the guy usually brings a relative too, at least from what i heard

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

The khoutba step comes after those supervised meets, usually once both families are satisfied.
