Moving to Cairo 2026: how do you actually meet people?

honestly the sports clubs out in Maadi or Heliopolis are where it's at. it's a schlep from the Citadel but recurring social stuff kinda needs that.

The Gezira Club on Zamalek is another one worth a look, it's central enough that the commute doesn't kill you. Membership has a waiting list though, so start the paperwork early.

yeah the waitlist is real, my cousin waited like 8 months. fwiw the Cairo Rugby Club out past Sheikh Zayed is easier to join and they do weekly touch rugby plus a bar night. bit of a drive from where you'll be though

Fair point on the commute, though I'd check whether the club runs a shuttle before committing.

Salah El Din Citadel tickets 2026: buy online or at gate?

fmd_goodSalah El Din Citadel · #tickets #cairo #citadel
Coming to Cairo in March and planning a morning at Salah El Din Citadel. Can u buy tickets at the gate or is it better to book online for 2026? Also how long should I set aside for the whole complex? Skip the mosque, go straight to the north wall for views.

arrow_drop_up 6 arrow_drop_down

the mosque's alabaster courtyard is worth 15 min tho

arrow_drop_up 19 arrow_drop_down

Second this, the tilework inside is the real draw.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

15 min is about right but go early, the courtyard gets brutal in the afternoon sun with zero shade. also check if the clock tower area is open, it was closed when i went

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

gate tickets are fine, lines move quick before 10am, but give the complex 2.5 to 3 hrs since the military museum alone eats an hour

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

yeah the mosque gets packed by noon too

arrow_drop_up -1 arrow_drop_down

Agreed, and Wednesdays are quieter than weekends.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

2.5 to 3 hrs is right but most of that is walking between the mosques and the walls, not the museum. I'd shave the museum to 40 min and spend the extra time at the Gawhara Palace.

Honestly the online portal's card payment often fails for foreign cards, so bring cash in EGP as backup for the ticket window.

cash desk closes around 4pm too
