Also do most places nearby take cards now or is it still cash only?

The Nile Hilton exchange desk, weekdays before noon.

arrow_drop_up 19 arrow_drop_down

That desk shut years ago with the hotel

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

not sure that desk still exists, maybe try a bank branch in Islamic Cairo instead.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Gone since the hotel rebranded years back.

arrow_drop_up 18 arrow_drop_down

Fair, the Marriott runs its own desk now

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

honestly sort ur cash before u go up, teh ATMs right by the entrance are hit or miss and can run dry on weekends. cards work at bigger hotels and restaurants downtown but around the Citadel itself expect cash only for snacks and tickets.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Agreed on the cash point, but I'd add the ticket window itself sometimes takes cards now, so don't panic if you're short. There's a Banque Misr branch on Salah Salem about ten minutes' walk down if you need a proper counter rather than a machine.

Is the bus or metro along Al Nasr Rd actually usable for a visitor or should I just budget for ride apps?
arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Al Nasr Rd is long and the metro doesn't run along it, so you'll mostly use microbuses and the occasional bus, plus ride apps for anything after dark.

Worth adding that microbuses there don't have fixed stops, you flag them down and pay the driver when you get off. Line 1 at Sadat gets you downtown but you'll still need a short ride to reach it from most of the road.

Careem beats Uber there, faster pickups.

arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

yeah and the microbuses thin out after like 10pm so dont count on them late, honestly just grab a Careem then

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

true, and the road's got a few names along its length so tell the driver the landmark not just "nasr rd" or you'll overshoot. microbus routes shift depending on which stretch you're on, so ask someone at the corner which one heads your way

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Buses on that road are hit or miss but the 949 runs a decent stretch, just watch for the gender car split on busy ones.

The 949 is cash only, small notes help.

Fair point, and the metro's Line 3 stops at Abbasiya and Heliopolis, which are actually closer to the northern end of the road.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Microbuses run fuller and cheaper before 8am.
