yeah this is a really good breakdown of zhongshan, i've been here for a few years and you covered the essentials well. one thing i'd add is the zhongshan hot spring resort out in sanxiang town if you need a chill day, it's about 30 mins by bus from the city center and has these outdoor pools surrounded by lychee trees. the water's naturally warm and it's way less crowded than the parks on weekends.

for the museum of art, wednesdays are free but it's small enough that you can see everything in an hour, so don't build a whole afternoon around it unless there's a special exhibit. i'd swap that time for a walk along the qijiang river instead, the lights hit different after sunset and there's a guy who sells grilled squid near the bridge for like 10 kuai, best snack in the city imo.

good list, covers the main stuff well. if you're into architecture, the zhongshan memorial library on xingzhong road is worth a look, it's this old colonial building from the 30s with a reading room that has these massive wooden tables and green lampshades, feels like a movie set. they have a small exhibit upstairs about the building's history too, free to enter.

for the shiqi pigeon, i actually prefer the one at the restaurant on jiefang road near the stadium, they do a salt-baked version that's less greasy than the roasted ones and the skin gets this paper-thin crunch. it's a bit pricier at like 50 kuai a bird but worth it if you're only having it once.

I'd add that the Shiqi Museum of Intangible Cultural Heritage on Sunwen West Road is worth a stop too, it's small but has detailed dioramas showing how the city's famous lanterns and carvings are made by hand. The staff there are usually happy to explain things if you gesture enough.

For a quieter meal away from the tourist spots, try the wonton noodle shop on Huancheng Road near the No.1 Middle School. It's been open since the 80s and the broth is richer than anything I've had in the old town. A bowl is about 12 RMB and they close by 2 PM, so go for an early lunch.

ngl this guide's pretty thorough but you're missing a killer evening option for day 1. instead of the night market, walk 2 minutes south from sunwen west road to the old canal bridge area around about 8pm. the street vendors set up along the water with those little plastic stools, and you get grilled squid and beer for like 15 yuan total. way less crowded than fengming road and the canal reflections with the old buildings are gorgeous at night

for day 2, if you're at the culture square and it's a thursday or friday, check if the zhongshan philharmonic is doing a free open rehearsal at the concert hall next door. i stumbled into one last year and it was like an hour of classical music with basically nobody there. just walk in the side door near the ticket booth

one thing about the hot springs - the resort's 120 yuan pass includes the sauna rooms but most tourists don't know the dry sauna's closed for renovation until mid 2025. so you're really paying for the pools and steam room only. still worth it if you go on a weekday when it's quiet, but don't expect the full package til later

the hot springs day is nice but honestly you can skip the resort if you're on a budget. there's a free public hot spring foot bath area in sanxiang town near the main square, locals use it all the time. just bring a small towel and sit with the grandmas for a while, it's the same geothermal water from the source

for the sun yat-sen residence, if you go on a weekday morning it's almost empty. i went on a tuesday once and had the whole exhibition hall to myself. the audio guide is worth the 10 yuan rental, it covers details the plaques skip

laojie rice noodle roll is good but the one at the morning market on huancheng road is better imo. it's about a 5 minute walk from where the guide mentions, they use a different soy sauce blend that's sweeter. get there before 10am or they sell out
