🍜 Must-Try Local Dishes
Jiujiang's cuisine is defined by its freshwater location on the Yangtze River. The signature dish is Lushan stone ear fungus soup, a delicate broth made from a local mushroom that grows on rocks. You should also try Poyang Lake fish head with pickled chili, a spicy and sour stew that showcases the region's bold flavors.

πŸͺ Top Street Food Stalls
For authentic street food, head to Xunyang Night Market on Xunyang Road, open from 5 PM to midnight. The stall at the north entrance sells the best jianbing (savory crepes) for 8-12 yuan. Another must-visit is the fried dough stick vendor near Ganjiang Bridge, famous for its crispy texture and low price of 2 yuan per stick.

🍽️ Best Sit-Down Restaurants
For a proper meal, book a table at Lushan Restaurant at 88 Lushan Avenue, which serves classic Jiangxi dishes like braised pork belly with dried bamboo shoots. Expect to pay 80-150 yuan per person. Another excellent choice is Poyang Lake Fish Village at 12 Binjiang Road, where the steamed fish with ginger and scallions costs around 60 yuan.

🍡 Tea and Snack Spots
Jiujiang is known for its Lushan Yunwu tea, a green tea with a nutty aroma. Visit Tea House No. 1 at 45 Changhong Avenue for a traditional tea ceremony with snacks like sesame seed cakes, costing 30-50 yuan per person. The shop also sells loose-leaf tea starting at 100 yuan per 100 grams.

πŸ’° Budget-Friendly Eats
You can eat well on a budget in Jiujiang. The noodle shops along Renmin Road serve bowls of beef noodles for 10-15 yuan. For a filling lunch, try the rice noodle stall at the corner of Xunyang Road and Lushan Avenue, where a bowl with pork and pickled vegetables costs only 8 yuan.

πŸŒ™ Evening Food Scene
As night falls, the food scene shifts to Ganjiang Night Market near the Ganjiang Bridge, open from 6 PM to 2 AM. Grilled skewers of lamb and chicken hearts are popular, priced at 3-5 yuan each. Don't miss the stinky tofu vendor at the market's center, whose crispy fried tofu with chili sauce costs 10 yuan per serving.

🚌 Getting to Food Hotspots
Most food areas are accessible by public bus. Xunyang Night Market is a 10-minute walk from Xunyang Bus Station (routes 1, 5, and 12). For Lushan Restaurant, take bus 7 to Lushan Avenue stop. Taxis are affordable, with most trips within the city center costing 10-20 yuan.

πŸ“… Seasonal Food Events
In autumn, the Jiujiang Food Festival takes place at Nanhu Park, featuring stalls from local restaurants and street vendors. This is the best time to try limited-edition dishes like crab from Poyang Lake, which are not available year-round. The festival runs for two weeks in October, with free entry.

Nice to see someone put together a proper list for Jiujiang. One thing I'd add is the breakfast rice noodles at the small shop on the south side of Xunyang Square, just off Lushan Avenue. They serve a dry-mixed version with minced pork and preserved vegetables that's only 7 yuan, and it's been running since the early 90s. The owner's daughter now handles the morning rush and she remembers regular orders by heart, which is pretty impressive for a place that size.

If you're at the Ganjiang Night Market, the grilled fish stall near the south entrance does a whole fish with cumin and chili for 25 yuan that feeds two people easily. It's not mentioned much in guides because they don't have a proper sign, just a red lantern with a fish painted on it.

The guide is solid, but they missed one of my favorite spots. There's a small shop on Renmin Road called Old Chen's Soup Dumplings, just past the noodle shops they mention. They do these xiaolongbao with a crab roe filling that's only available from September to November, and for 20 yuan you get eight dumplings with a side of ginger vinegar. It's easy to walk right past since the sign is faded and handwritten, but there's almost always a line of locals out front around lunchtime. I'd also recommend the Lushan Yunwu tea at Tea House No. 1, but skip the ceremony and just buy the loose leaf to take home, it's cheaper and you can brew it yourself.

solid guide, but they left out the breakfast game entirely. head to the corner of xunyang road and renmin road around 7 am for the rice noodle rolls from a cart that's been there for like 20 years, 5 yuan gets you a fresh one with soy sauce and chili oil that's way better than the stalls open later. the lady running it doesn't speak much mandarin but just point and smile, she'll hook you up. also, if you're at lushan restaurant, ask for the table by the window on the second floor, it overlooks the street and you can watch the old guys playing xiangqi while you eat

tbh for a full week I'd look at the Shili area, around Shili Dadao and the older streets off it. it's not where tourists go, rent for a short stay is cheap, and you're close to real local breakfast spots like the little places doing jiujiang-style rice noodles for like 8-10 yuan. buses on Shili Dadao get you to Xunyang Lu in maybe 15 min, and it's way quieter than the lake side at night.

only catch is you're a bit further from the Yangtze, so if riverfront walks are your thing it's a tradeoff. for food and a non-touristy feel tho it's hard to beat

honestly the other recs are solid but I'd look at the area around Jiujiang University on the south side. tons of cheap eats aimed at students, rent is lower than Xunyang, and bus lines 101/105 get u downtown in like 15 min. downside is it's a bit far from the Yangtze riverfront if thats your thing, and weekends get quiet when students go home.

for a week tho you're prob fine anywhere central. just avoid booking right on Binjiang Lu unless you like walking 20 min to find food

if you want walkable + food + not touristy, look around Xunyang district near Gantang Lake. there's a night market around there and you can walk to most stuff, buses run along Xunyang Lu. I'd pick that over the Binjiang area which is nice but more spread out and honestly a bit quiet at night.

for a week tho you could also just stay near Jiujiang railway station if you plan day trips to Lushan. lots of cheap hotels, tons of noodle shops, easy to get out. just depends if u want local vibe or convenience.
