honestly the qufu area is underrated in this guide, but i'd add that staying near the confucius mansion instead of directly by the temple gives u better food options. there's a small street called taimiao jie with local noodle shops that are way cheaper than the tourist spots. also for rencheng, the jining hotel is solid but if u want something more modern check out the new holiday inn express on changqing road, it's right next to a big supermarket which is handy. the bus to qufu from the station on jiankang road is actually like 8 cny and runs every 20 mins, super easy.
ngl the guide skips over the best food street in rencheng. theres a whole alley off hongxing road near the old silk factory that has these tiny stalls selling jining style fried pancakes and lamb soup, way better than anything on guihuayuan. it's called hua'er hutong, no signs in english but just follow the smell of sesame oil around 6pm.
for families looking at qufu, the queli hotel is fine but the confucius mansion hotel is actually closer to the main sites and has a better breakfast spread with local pastries. also the bus from jining to qufu is super reliable but if u have 3+ people a taxi is only like 60 cny and saves 30 mins, totally worth it imo.
the weishan lake guesthouse tip is good but i'd add that most of those families speak zero english so have google translate ready. i stayed at one called lianhua yuan and the grandma running it made me fresh fish soup every morning, best meal of my trip honestly. just bring cash cause they dont take cards out there.
fwiw the yanzhou digital nomad section is actually spot on, i worked from the yanzhou business center for a month last year and the internet was solid. one thing they didnt mention is that theres a decent coffee shop called brew lab on minzhu road thats basically a second office for remote workers, good espresso and outlets everywhere. for anyone thinking about that area, just know theres not much nightlife so stock up on snacks before 9pm cause everything shuts early
