Where to stay in Huainan for a two-month trip?
honestly if you're here for two months, look around the Dongshan area near the train station. there's a bunch of cheap month-to-month apartments in those older residential compounds, and the bus lines are solid for getting to most parts of the city. food-wise, the little streets off Renmin Nan Lu have some great breakfast spots and noodle shops that won't break the bank. just avoid the places right on Huaihe Avenue, they're loud and overpriced.
tianjia'an district is pretty solid for a longer stay, there's a ton of little restaurants along the main drag and the buses run frequently to both the center and the train station. the apartment complexes there are mostly older but you can usually find a decent furnished place for cheap on the local wechat groups
If you're here for two months, I'd check out the area around Shannan New District. It's a bit quieter than the city center but the bus routes are well connected, and there's a decent cluster of restaurants and small markets near the central square. The month-to-month rentals in the newer high-rises there tend to be cleaner and more reliable than the older compounds, and you can walk to a solid wet market for fresh produce. Just be aware it's a bit farther from the train station, so factor in an extra 20 minutes on the bus if you travel that way often.

🏛️ Morning: BAGUI MOUNTAIN
Head to Bagongshan National Forest Park (Bagongshan Road, Tianjia'an District) around 8:30 AM. The park opens at 7:30 AM and costs CNY 40 per person. Spend 2-3 hours hiking the scenic trails and visiting the ancient Bagongshan Temple.

After the hike, take a 15-minute taxi (about CNY 15) to Huainan Beef Soup Street on Dongshan Road. Try a bowl of Huainan beef soup at Lao Ma Tou Beef Soup (No. 88 Dongshan Road) for around CNY 20. The broth is rich and served with flatbread.

Take bus No. 29 from Dongshan Road to Shouxian County (45 minutes, CNY 2). Visit the Shouxian Ancient City Wall, a Ming dynasty relic, and the Shouxian Museum (free entry, closed Mondays). The wall offers great views of the old town.

Huainan's bus system is efficient and cheap (CNY 1-2 per ride). Taxis start at CNY 7 for the first 2 km. For longer trips, consider the Huainan Metro Line 1, which connects Tianjia'an to Panji District. A single ride costs CNY 2-5.

Bring cash as many small vendors don't accept cards. The best time to visit is spring (March-May) or autumn (September-November) for mild weather. Avoid national holidays like Golden Week when attractions are crowded.
solid plan, really captures the city well. one thing i'd say is don't bother with bus 29 to shouxian if you can grab a taxi instead, it's like CNY 30-40 and saves you almost half an hour. the bus can get cramped and slow through the old town traffic.
also, if you're doing bagongshan in the morning, try to hit the trail behind the temple first. most people stick to the main path but that back loop has a little pavilion with a killer view of the whole city on a clear day. just watch your step, some of the stone steps are loose.
This is a solid itinerary. One thing I'd add is that if you're at Shouxian, don't miss the Da Bao'en Temple just south of the city wall. It's a short walk from the museum and has a really impressive Ming dynasty pagoda that most tourists skip. The entry is only about CNY 10 and it's way quieter than the main wall area.
For the night market on Huaihe Road, the grilled skewers are good but I personally prefer the ones from the stall near the north entrance. The guy there uses a spicier rub and they come out crispier. Just a heads up that the market gets packed around 7:30 PM so go a bit earlier if you want to grab a table at one of the noodle shops nearby.
hey nice itinerary, covers the main spots pretty well. one thing i'd add is that if you're into photography, hit the shouxian city wall right at sunset instead of the afternoon. the light hits those old bricks and the rooftops in a way that looks amazing, way better than midday. also, the huainan museum is small but they have this one room with a full replica of an old coal mine tunnel you can walk through, kinda cool and unexpected for a free place
