Ask for the gongfu price per gram upfront.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Per gram only helps if you confirm it's the dry leaf weight, since some shops quote the brewed cup instead.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

yeah and dry weight varies with moisture too, so teh quote can shift. Honestly I'd just get the total in writing before they brew anything.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

dry leaf weight, always, wet weight is nonsense

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Brewed cup quote is the giveaway, walk away.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

specifying gongfu style also matters since the leaf to water ratio they use changes what that gram price actually gets u

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

true, gongfu ratio changes everything. a shop can quote 8g for a 100ml gaiwan then quietly brew 12g. i always watch them weigh it out in front of me.

arrow_drop_up 20 arrow_drop_down

Ratio plus the actual gaiwan size is what gets u, since a 150ml gaiwan at 8g costs way more than 100ml.

arrow_drop_up 8 arrow_drop_down

Get the total in writing too.

Worth adding that you should confirm whether that gram price covers the whole session or resets with each steep.

Giang Nam Quán bar in Gejiu, worth a visit in 2026?

fmd_goodGiang Nam Quán · #beer
Stopping through Gejiu for a couple nights in 2026 and saw Giang Nam Quán mentioned. Is it a local beer spot or more of a cocktail place, and what are prices like these days? Jinhu Dong Lu side, later in the evening.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

later is right, the place only really fills up after 9. side streets off that stretch are where the cheap skewer stalls sit, so eat first & drink after. bring cash, some of those spots dont do wechat pay

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Agree, though the side entrance off the alley is easier to miss

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

The alley mouth is unmarked, look for the red lantern.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

that side gets the after work crowd earlier too, around 6 to 7, then thins out before the late rush. dont bother before 5, nothing open

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

no idea about 2026 prices but Giang Nam Quán leans beer-and-snacks rather than cocktails, think 20 to 40 yuan a round

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Second this, cash only in my experience

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

yeah beer & snacks sounds right from what i heard, not really a cocktail spot. 20 to 40 a round tracks for smaller places around there, though i wouldnt bank on 2026 numbers holding tbh

id also expect the snack menu to matter more than the drinks list, like peanuts & grilled stuff to share. prices could drift by 2026 but the vibe probably wont

If you're there on a weekend it can get loud with groups doing ganbei, so go early if you want to actually talk. I'd ask your hotel to call ahead, since small spots there sometimes close without notice.
