if you have time on day three after fenghuang mountain, skip jinjiangshan and walk the path along the river going east from the broken bridge instead. there's a little pavilion about 15 minutes down where locals play cards and you get a clear view of the north korean guard tower without any crowds around you.
the hushan great wall ticket includes a small museum at the base that most people walk past, it's got some old weapons and uniforms, takes maybe 15 minutes but gives you context for what you're looking at from the wall itself. worth a quick stop before you start climbing.

honestly the best thing i did was just walk along the river after dark. the bridge is lit up and you can see the north korean side totally dark which is kind of surreal. plus all the street food stalls come out near the broken bridge around 8pm, great grilled corn and those little egg cakes for like 5 yuan
for hushan great wall, if you're fit enough skip the cable car and hike up the old path. it's steeper but you pass these tiny watchtowers most tourists miss and it's way quieter. took me about an hour to get to the top from the entrance
yeah the cold noodles at jinzhou are legit, but if you want the real deal head to a place called lao dongbei on qingnian street. it's a hole in the wall, no english menu, but their cold noodles come with a spicy pickled radish broth that's way better than the standard version. costs like 12 yuan and they'll give u scissors to cut the noodles at the table
one thing the guide missed is the morning market on sanmao street near the train station. it's mostly locals buying produce but around 7am there's a guy selling fresh made youtiao and soy milk for 3 yuan total. perfect breakfast before heading to the bridge, and you'll see way more real dandong life than any of the tourist spots
also the river park is nice but the best spot to watch sunset is actually from the pedestrian bridge just north of the broken bridge. it's free, less crowded, and you can sit on the steps with a beer from the convenience store across the street. just bring mosquito spray, they're brutal near the water after 6pm
one thing about the broken bridge that i don't see mentioned is the glass floor section near the end. they added it a couple years back and standing over the damaged trusses with the water rushing below is pretty intense especially when you look down and realize the river is the actual border. costs the same 30 yuan entry but it's a different perspective than just walking on the regular deck
for the hushan wall, if u go on a weekday morning it's almost empty. i was there at 9am on a tuesday and had the entire top section to myself for like 20 minutes. the museum at the bottom has some interesting old photos of the border from the 80s before the bridge was reopened too
the boat ride is worth doing once but tbh i preferred just sitting at one of the riverside tea houses near the park. they charge like 15 yuan for a pot of jasmine tea and you get the same view of sinuiju without the engine noise. the old ladies running them will keep refilling your hot water forever
