**🗺️ Arrival and Orientation** Start your first day at Kahramanmaras Bus Terminal (Otogar), about 5 km north of the city center. A dolmus (minibus) to the center costs 15 TL and takes 15-20 minutes; taxis charge around 100 TL. Drop your bags at a hotel near Cumhuriyet Meydani, the main square, where most attractions are within walking distance. Pick up a city map from the tourist information office (open 9:00-17:00, closed Sundays) and confirm opening hours for the bazaar and museums. **🏛️ Day 1: Old City Core** Begin at Kahramanmaras Museum (Istiklal Caddesi, open 8:30-17:00, entry 30 TL) to see Roman mosaics and ethnographic displays. Walk 10 minutes to the Grand Mosque (Ulu Cami) and the adjacent covered bazaar (Kapali Carsi), lively from 9:00 to 19:00. Lunch at a local eatery like Kebapci Emmi (Sakarya Caddesi) for a plate of Maras kebap (around 80 TL). In the afternoon, visit the Taş Medrese (stone madrasa) and the nearby handcraft shops selling copperware and textiles. **🏰 Day 2: Castle and Panorama** Head to Kahramanmaras Castle (Kale) on the hilltop; a taxi from the center costs about 50 TL and takes 10 minutes, or you can walk up in 25 minutes. The castle is open 9:00-18:00 (entry 20 TL) and offers sweeping views of the city. After descending, explore the nearby Alemdar Mosque and the historic Arasta Bazaar. For lunch, try Sariyer Balik (Balikcilar Caddesi) for fresh trout, then relax at a tea garden in the afternoon. **🌳 Day 3: Parks and Markets** Spend the morning at the Kahramanmaras Botanical Garden (Binevler Mahallesi, open 8:00-20:00, free entry), a peaceful spot with local plant species. Then take a dolmus to the Wednesday Market (Çarşamba Pazarı) for fresh produce and spices; it runs from 7:00 to 17:00. Have lunch at a street stall serving içli köfte (stuffed bulgur balls) for about 25 TL. In the afternoon, visit the nearby city park (Şehitlik Parkı) and enjoy a final Turkish coffee before departure. **🍽️ Where to Eat** Kahramanmaras is famous for its ice cream (dondurma) and kebap. For dondurma, try Yaşar Dondurma (Cumhuriyet Meydani, open 8:00-23:00) where a cone costs 20 TL. For a full meal, Kebapci Emmi (Sakarya Caddesi) serves generous portions of Maras kebap for 80-100 TL. Budget-friendly options include the many lokantas around the bazaar, where a set meal costs around 50 TL. **🚌 Getting Around** The city center is compact and walkable, but for longer hops use dolmus (minibuses) that cost 15 TL per ride. Taxis are metered, with short trips within the center costing 40-60 TL. To reach the bus terminal, allow 20 minutes by dolmus or 15 minutes by taxi. Ride-hailing apps are not widely used, so flag down taxis or use local dolmus routes. **💰 Budget and Tips** A comfortable daily budget is around 400-600 TL per person, covering meals, transport, and entry fees. Many museums and sites accept credit cards, but carry cash for markets and small eateries. Tipping is customary (5-10% in restaurants). Learn a few Turkish phrases like 'merhaba' (hello) and 'teşekkürler' (thanks) to connect with locals. **📅 Best Time to Visit** Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) offer mild weather ideal for walking. Summers can be hot (30-35°C), so plan indoor activities during midday. Winters are cool but manageable, with occasional snow; check museum hours as they may shorten in low season.
