Cheongpa-dong's Hidden History?

Question

I'm heading to @Seoul next month and plan on spending a day exploring Cheongpa-dong 1-ga. I've read about its fascinating history, but all the online stuff focuses on the more recent developments. My grandma, who lived there in the 60s, always talked about secret, little alleyways and hidden shrines, places that aren't on any tourist map. Does anyone know of any resources, maybe old photos or local stories, that reveal a bit more about Cheongpa-dong 1-ga's *past*? I'd love to find some hidden gems, beyond the usual shops and cafes, to really get a feel for the area's history. It would make my trip so much richer.

That's a fantastic goal! Trying to uncover the hidden history of a neighborhood like Cheongpa-dong 1-ga is awesome. Forget the usual tourist traps, you're on the right track.

Your best bet might be local libraries or archives in @Seoul. They sometimes have old neighborhood newsletters, photos, or even oral history projects. Think about contacting local universities with history departments; their researchers might have stumbled across something. Also, older residents themselves, chatting with folks who've lived there for decades in the neighborhood might yield some amazing anecdotes. It's a long shot, but trying to find a local historical society or community group focused on the area could be a goldmine.

Good luck with your digging! I bet you'll find some amazing stories. Let us know what you discover!
