**🥐 Start with a Cassoulet** No trip to Toulouse is complete without cassoulet, the hearty white bean stew with duck confit and sausage. For a classic version, head to Le Colombier at 14 Rue du May, where a generous bowl costs around 18 euros. It's rich, filling, and best enjoyed with a glass of local Cahors wine. **🍢 Street Food in Victor Hugo** The Marché Victor Hugo, at Place Victor Hugo, is a covered market where you can sample local specialties from small stalls. Try the saucisse de Toulouse grilled on the spot, often served in a baguette for about 5 euros. The market is open Tuesday to Sunday, from 7 am to 1:30 pm, so go early for the freshest bites. **🍰 Sweet Treats and Pastries** For dessert, visit La Maison Pillon at 24 Rue du Poids de l'Huile, a historic pastry shop known for its fénétra, a local almond and candied fruit cake. A slice costs around 4 euros, and it pairs perfectly with a coffee. They also make excellent chocolate éclairs if you're in the mood for something richer. **🍷 Wine Bars and Tapas** In the Saint-Cyprien neighborhood, Le Bar à Vin at 1 Place du Pont Neuf offers a curated list of southwest French wines by the glass, from 4 to 8 euros. Pair your wine with a plate of charcuterie or cheese for 12 euros. The terrace overlooks the Garonne, making it a lovely spot for a late afternoon break. **🍽️ Fine Dining Options** For a special meal, book a table at Michel Sarran, a two-Michelin-star restaurant at 21 Rue des Amidonniers. The tasting menu runs about 120 euros per person, showcasing modern French cuisine with Gascon influences. Reservations are essential, so plan ahead at least a month in advance. **🌮 International Flavors** Toulouse's diverse food scene includes excellent North African and Middle Eastern options. At Le Petit Bouchon, 15 Rue des Gestes, you can enjoy a hearty couscous royale for 16 euros, with tender lamb and merguez sausages. The restaurant is small and popular, so arrive early or book a table for dinner. **🚋 Neighborhood Food Crawls** The Carmes district is a food lover's paradise, with narrow streets packed with bistros and crêperies. Take the metro to Carmes station and wander around Place du Salin, where you'll find Crêperie Saint-Georges at 12 Rue du Salin, serving savory galettes from 9 euros. It's a great area to sample multiple cuisines in one evening. **💶 Budget-Friendly Eats** If you're watching your wallet, grab a panini or a slice of pizza from the many casual spots near the Capitole. Chez Yvonne, at 12 Rue du Poids de l'Huile, offers a daily lunch menu for 12 euros, including a main and a drink. For a quick snack, the boulangeries around Place Wilson sell savory pastries like quiche for under 5 euros.
