**🍜 Signature Noodle Houses** Start your food tour at Laochen Noodle Shop (老陈面馆) on Dongpo Road, where the dan dan noodles are a local legend. A bowl costs about 12 RMB, and the shop opens daily from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM. For a heartier option, try the beef noodles at Xiangmanlou (香满楼) on Jiefang Street, priced at 18 RMB, with a rich broth that simmers overnight. **🥟 Must-Try Dumpling Stalls** Head to the morning market on Wenchang Street, where Mrs. Zhang's dumpling stall serves up juicy pork and chive dumplings for 8 RMB per dozen. The stall operates from 6:30 AM until sold out, usually around 10:00 AM. For a unique twist, sample the spicy wontons at the night market on Binjiang Road, a favorite among locals after dark. **🍢 Street Food Hotspots** The pedestrian street near Meishan Park is a street food paradise, especially in the evening. Try the grilled skewers at A-Long BBQ (阿龙烧烤), where lamb skewers cost 3 RMB each and are seasoned with cumin and chili. Don't miss the stinky tofu from a vendor at the east gate of the park, priced at 10 RMB per box, a pungent but addictive local specialty. **🍲 Hotpot and Local Feasts** For a sit-down meal, visit Shu Xiang Ge (蜀香阁) on Renmin Road, a popular hotpot spot with a spicy Sichuan broth. The all-you-can-eat buffet costs 68 RMB per person and includes a wide array of fresh vegetables and meats. Another excellent choice is the farmhouse restaurant, Tian Ran Ju (天然居), located on the outskirts of town, where you can enjoy a whole chicken stew for 88 RMB, served with locally grown greens. **🍰 Sweet Treats and Desserts** Satisfy your sweet tooth at the traditional pastry shop, Lao Fangzi (老房子), on Zhongshan Street, known for its sesame candy and rice cakes. A box of assorted pastries costs around 25 RMB, perfect for sharing or taking home. For a modern twist, try the mango pomelo sago at the dessert café, Sweet Corner (甜蜜角落), near the city library, priced at 18 RMB per bowl. **🏘️ Hidden Neighborhood Gems** Venture into the old residential area around Qinglong Lane, where small family-run eateries serve home-style dishes. At Sister Liu's Kitchen (刘姐家常菜), a two-course meal with rice costs about 30 RMB, and the menu changes daily based on what's fresh at the market. Another hidden gem is the tofu pudding shop on the corner of Qinglong Lane, open from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, offering a silky dessert for just 5 RMB. **💰 Budget and Price Tips** Most street snacks in Meishan range from 5 to 15 RMB, while a full meal at a mid-range restaurant will set you back about 40 to 60 RMB per person. For the best value, look for lunch specials at noodle shops, which often include a drink and a side dish for under 20 RMB. Avoid eating directly in tourist-heavy areas, as prices can be 20% higher than in local neighborhoods. **🚌 Getting to Food Spots** Many of the best food spots are within walking distance of the city center, but you can also take bus routes 1, 3, or 7 to reach the main food streets. Taxis are cheap, with most rides within the city costing under 10 RMB. For the night market on Binjiang Road, it's easiest to walk from the Meishan Hotel, as parking is limited and the area gets crowded after 7:00 PM.
