Meishan is pretty compact, so you can walk between most of the main sights in the old city area. The bus system works fine for getting to places like the Three Su Shrine or Dongpo City, but it's not super frequent and the routes can be a bit confusing if you don't read Chinese. I'd save taxis for when you're heading to the outskirts or if it's raining, and just use a ride-hailing app for anything else since they're cheap and easy.

tbh if you're not in a rush the public bikes are actually solid here, there's stations all over near the river and the Three Su Shrine area. just need to scan a QR code with alipay or wechat, costs like 1 yuan for the first hour. the bus system works but I've had drivers blow right past me if I wasn't standing at the exact stop marker, so not the most reliable

honestly the buses are fine but you gotta know where you're going or have google maps ready. taxis are cheap enough that i just used them most of the time, like 10-15 yuan gets you anywhere in the main area
