Leizhou day trips: what's worth the drive?

Question

I'm heading to Leizhou in a couple of months and have about three free days there. I'm thinking of renting a car to explore nearby spots like the volcanic crater or the ancient villages. What are the must see day trips from Leizhou that won't eat up the whole day in the car?

honestly the volcanic crater at Huguangyan is worth it but it's more like a half day thing. the drive is about an hour each way, pretty straight road. if you want something different, head to the Leizhou Ancient City wall in the old town, it's right there in the city so no driving needed. also check out the Tianhou Temple near the coast, it's got this quiet vibe and you can see the fishing boats come in around sunset. skip the villages unless you're really into old stuff, they're kinda spread out and the roads are narrow.

If you've got a car, drive out to the Leizhou Peninsula coast near Wushi Port. The volcanic rock formations along the shore are pretty striking, and there's this old lighthouse that's been there forever. Takes maybe 40 minutes to get there, and you can grab some fresh seafood at a little shack nearby before heading back.

the drive out to the donghai island is pretty chill, takes like an hour and the beaches are way less crowded than the main spots. just bring snacks cause food options are limited out there
