ok the night market on day 2 is solid but the real move is stall 5 a few spots down, they do this claypot rice with cured meat and it comes with a crispy burnt bottom that everyone fights over, ¥25 and worth it. for day 1 skipping the museum to just wander the alleyways behind the confucian temple is a nice swap, there's a old guy who sets up a portable grill around 4pm selling whole grilled squid for ¥12, way more local than the snack street which can be touristy. also the sugarcane juice at the night market is fine but the lady on nantian lake's west side near the pavilion presses it fresh with ice for ¥5 and it's way sweeter
yo this is a solid plan honestly. one thing id add is on day 2 after the volcano park, if u have time swing by the small street food stalls just outside the park entrance - the old lady selling fried taro balls (about ¥5 for a bag) is way better than the touristy stuff inside. also the bus 6 can get packed around noon so try to catch it before 11am or after 1pm. the stone dog park is def worth it, i spent way longer than 1.5 hours there just staring at all the different expressions on those dogs

fwiw the nature lover's choice near huguangyan is great but you're gonna want a scooter. i rented one from a shop on wenming road for 50 a day and it made getting around the volcanic area so much easier, you can stop at random viewpoints without worrying about bus schedules. the eco-lodges are basic but the star gazing at night is incredible, no light pollution at all. just bring mosquito repellent, they get aggressive after sunset

The Leizhou Grand Hotel is a solid pick but the noise from the street can be noticeable even on higher floors. For a quieter option in that same zone, check out smaller guesthouses tucked into the side alleys off Dongmen Road, they're often family-run and more atmospheric.
