**🏰 Explore the Old Bazaar** Start your visit at the historic Kahramanmaras Bazaar, a labyrinth of covered streets dating back to the Ottoman era. Here you can watch artisans crafting copperware and leather goods, and sample local specialties like tarhana and pestil. The bazaar is most lively in the mornings, and it's a great place to pick up souvenirs. Don't miss the chance to try the famous Maras pepper at one of the spice stalls. **🍦 Taste the Legendary Ice Cream** No trip to Kahramanmaras is complete without trying its world-famous ice cream, known as Maras dondurmasi. Head to the iconic Yaşar Pastanesi on Trabzon Street, where the ice cream is stretched and served with a show. A single cone costs around 20 TL, and the experience is worth every penny. For a more modern take, try the ice cream at Mado, a popular chain with a branch in the city center. **🏛️ Visit the Archaeological Museum** The Kahramanmaras Archaeological Museum houses a fascinating collection of artifacts from the Hittite, Roman, and Byzantine periods. Highlights include the famous Lion of Maras and intricate mosaics from the ancient city of Germanicia. The museum is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, and entry costs 50 TL. It's a great way to understand the region's rich history. **🌳 Relax in the City Parks** Escape the hustle at the Kahramanmaras City Park, a sprawling green space with walking paths, cafes, and a small lake. It's a favorite spot for locals to picnic and enjoy the fresh air. Another peaceful option is the Karacasu Park, located a short taxi ride from the center, known for its lush gardens and family-friendly atmosphere. Both parks are free to enter and open until late evening. **🍽️ Savor Local Cuisine** Kahramanmaras is a food lover's paradise, with dishes like Maras tava (a hearty meat and vegetable stew) and icli kofte (stuffed meatballs) that you won't find elsewhere. For an authentic meal, try the family-run restaurant Caglayan Sofrasi on Aziziye Street, where a full meal costs around 100 TL. Don't forget to pair your food with a glass of ayran, the traditional yogurt drink. The city's culinary scene is a blend of southeastern and Mediterranean flavors. **🕌 Discover Historic Mosques** The Grand Mosque (Ulu Cami) is one of the oldest in the city, with a serene courtyard and intricate stone carvings. Another must-visit is the Abdulhamid Han Mosque, a modern structure with stunning Ottoman-style architecture. Both are active places of worship, so dress modestly and avoid visiting during prayer times. Entry is free, but donations are welcome. **🛍️ Shop for Local Crafts** Beyond the bazaar, the city is known for its high-quality textiles and copper goods. Visit the Maras Copper Bazaar (Bakircilar Carsisi) to see craftsmen at work and buy handmade pieces. For traditional Maras cloth, head to the textile shops around Cumhuriyet Square. Prices are negotiable, so don't be afraid to haggle a little. These make for unique souvenirs and gifts. **🚌 Getting Around the City** Kahramanmaras has a reliable public bus system that connects most major sights, with fares around 10 TL. Taxis are also affordable, with short trips within the center costing about 30 TL. For a more scenic option, take a dolmus (shared minibus) to the surrounding hills for panoramic views. The city is walkable in the center, but be prepared for some hilly streets.
