London's best panettone/pandoro?

Question

Seeking recommendations for high-quality panettone or pandoro in London, specifically in Hammersmith, Kensington, Marylebone, or from supermarkets beyond the average M&S offering.

bianca · Answer

if you're near marylebone, provender on marylebone lane gets a decent batch from vergani each year, usually in just before christmas. they're an old-school grocer, not a deli, so you won't get the hype but the quality's solid. otherwise waitrose on edgware road sometimes stocks the smaller artisanal brands alongside the usual bauli stuff, worth checking the seasonal aisle

ilse · Answer

For seriously good panettone, look beyond the supermarkets. Try a proper Italian deli in those areas, they often stock artisanal stuff that blows M&S out of the water. Failing that, a good bakery in Notting Hill (slightly further afield, but worth it) might have some imported options.

honestly i'd skip the supermarkets entirely for this. lina's bakery on portobello road does a decent panettone around christmas, it's not the most traditional but the texture is good and they don't skimp on the fruit. if you want the real deal though, eataly in king's cross is a hike from hammersmith but they bring in multiple brands from italy every year, including some smaller producers you won't find anywhere else in london

tbh you're overthinking this. just go to any half-decent italian cafe in kensington and ask if they sell their supplier's panettone. they usually do, it's prob from some random family in lombardy and way better than anything you'll find in a supermarket.
