**🏰 Explore the Historic Kremlin** Yaroslavl's Kremlin, also known as the Rubleny Gorod, is the city's founding site and a great starting point. Walk the earthen ramparts for free views of the Volga and Kotorosl rivers, and pop into the 16th-century Transfiguration Cathedral (open daily 8 AM to 8 PM, 200 RUB entry). The adjacent bell tower offers a climb for 150 RUB and panoramic photo ops. **⛪ Visit the Iconic Churches** Yaroslavl is a UNESCO site with over 30 historic churches. Don't miss the Church of Elijah the Prophet (Sovetskaya Ploshchad, 7), open 10 AM to 6 PM, closed Wednesdays, with vivid 17th-century frescoes. The Church of St. John the Baptist in Tolchkovo (2nd Tolchkovskaya Naberezhnaya, 1) is a 15-minute bus ride away and has the city's largest fresco cycle. Entry is 300 RUB for both. **🖼️ Browse the Art Museums** The Yaroslavl Art Museum (Volzhskaya Naberezhnaya, 23) houses Russian art from the 18th to 20th centuries in a former governor's mansion. It's open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 AM to 6 PM, with a 400 RUB ticket. For a quirky stop, the Museum of Music and Time (Volzhskaya Naberezhnaya, 33) has a collection of antique clocks and street organs, open daily 10 AM to 7 PM, 350 RUB. **🚶 Stroll the Volga Embankment** The Volga Embankment is Yaroslavl's main promenade, stretching from the Kremlin to the Strelka. It's free and lively in summer, with street musicians and vendors selling ice cream (around 100 RUB). At the Strelka, where the Volga and Kotorosl meet, you'll find a monument to the 1000th anniversary of Yaroslavl and great sunset views. **🍽️ Taste Local Cuisine** Yaroslavl is known for its hearty Russian fare. Try the restaurant 'Russkaya Okhota' (Pervomayskaya Ulitsa, 55) for game dishes like venison and wild boar, with mains around 800 to 1200 RUB. For a quick bite, 'Pyshechnaya' on Ulitsa Kirova serves fresh fried doughnuts (pyshki) for 30 RUB each, open 9 AM to 8 PM. Don't leave without trying Yaroslavl-style pickles and local cheese. **🎭 Catch a Show or Festival** The Yaroslavl Drama Theater (Volkov Square, 1) is the oldest in Russia, founded in 1750, with tickets from 500 RUB. Check the schedule for classic Russian plays, often with English subtitles. In summer, the city hosts the 'Yaroslavl is a City of Traditions' festival with folk music and crafts; most events are free and take place in the Kremlin and on the embankment. **🛍️ Shop for Souvenirs** For authentic souvenirs, head to the Yaroslavl Craft Market on Sovetskaya Ulitsa (weekends 10 AM to 6 PM). You'll find handmade linen, birch bark items, and local ceramics from 200 RUB. The 'Yaroslavl Souvenir' shop on Ulitsa Svobody, 42, is open daily 10 AM to 8 PM and stocks traditional Russian dolls and amber jewelry. **🌳 Relax in Parks and Gardens** The Yaroslavl Zoo (Shevchenko Ulitsa, 4) is home to over 200 species and is open daily 10 AM to 6 PM, with tickets at 400 RUB for adults. For a quieter escape, the Yubileyny Park on the left bank has a lake and walking trails, free to enter. In winter, the park's ice rink opens for skating (200 RUB per hour).
