Osaka work visa extension 2026: what do I actually file?

Question

I'm moving to Osaka this spring on a work visa and I'm already confused about the extension process. Which permit do I file for, and what documents trip people up the most? I'll be near Kuzunoki in Kozushima so any advice on the immigration office closest to that area would help too.

irmelinfricke · Answer

Kuzunoki's nowhere near Kozushima. Osaka or Tokyo?

diana · Answer

yeah kozushima is an island off Kita-ku, nothing near kuzunoki. Osaka has kuzunoha in nishiyodogawa if thats what they meant. either way the immigration office is prob the one in hommachi.

mirjam · Answer

just fwiw the hommachi office is the Osaka Regional Immigration Bureau, book online before you go or you'll wait hours.

I think the extension is just a standard renewal of your residence card, but the tax and pension payment records are what usually slow people down. Ask your employer's HR first since they handle most of it.
