Working remotely from Osaka 2026: internet and coworking?

fmd_good島田遺跡 · #internet #osaka
I'm in Osaka for a couple months in 2026 and need to work weekdays. How's the internet at cafes and coworking spots, and is it realistic to keep Japan hours overlapping with a US or Europe team? tbh the timezone thing is the real constraint, not wifi. Osaka is UTC+9 so a Europe team means starting around 5 or 6pm and US is brutal overnight. Most coworking spots in Umeda or Honmachi are fine speed-wise, but they close by 9 or 10pm. For late calls a serviced apartment with fiber beats a cafe. Most people I met did 1 to 3 months then moved on.

Good shout on the early opening, though I'd double check the connection before you commit to a call there. A lot of those old spots are fine for coffee but flaky once a few devices are on. Maybe test it on a quiet morning first.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Agreed on the timezone being the bottleneck. Worth adding that the US overlap is genuinely rough, a 9am Pacific standup lands at 1am here. If your team is mostly US based, I'd think hard about whether two months is worth it.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Yeah, closing time is the killer, not the speed.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Those midnight surcharges add up too.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Shared offices in Shinsaibashi often run 24h, worth checking.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

the 24h ones in shinsaibashi are mostly monthly contracts though, not drop in day passes. check whether they do short term before u count on it. namba area has a few that are more flexible

scam near 南園歩道橋 in Osaka?

fmd_good南園歩道橋 · #osaka #scam
was walking near 南園歩道橋 last week when a guy waved me into a tiny bar upstairs. said it was a 'local special' and the tab came to like 18,000 yen for two drinks. is this a known scam around there… was walking near 南園歩道橋 last week when a guy waved me into a tiny bar upstairs. said it was a 'local special' and the tab came to like 18,000 yen for two drinks. is this a known scam around there or did i just get unlucky?
arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

that's the classic ぼったくり bar scam around 南園 and 宗右衛門町, call 110 and report it, the police actually track these

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down
Image imke ·

110 works, but the 消費者センター hotline gets results too.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

Right, and the 18,000 for two drinks fits the ぼったくり pattern exactly, so definitely report it rather than just eating the loss.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

yeah 110 is the move, but also grab a photo of the place and the receipt if u can. the 南園 area cops know these upstairs bars well. reporting without evidence is harder for them to act on.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Agree on the 110 part. Worth adding the 消費者センター too since they log patterns even when police can't act on one report. The 18,000 for two drinks is textbook ぼったくり, so definitely report rather than let it slide.

arrow_drop_up 8 arrow_drop_down

the 消費者センター angle is solid, they keep a running tally so even a small report adds up. just don't expect them to get your money back, they mostly just log it and warn others.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Also worth noting those bars usually don't post prices outside, which is the tell before you even go up.

Not posting prices is the giveaway, no menu means walk.

arrow_drop_up -4 arrow_drop_down

Police only act if you file a damage report, so get the receipt and note the building floor before calling.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Report to 南警察署, not just 110.
