**🚕 Prepaid Taxi: Safe and Simple** Prepaid taxis are available at both terminals right after baggage claim. You pay a fixed fare at the counter based on your destination, so there is no haggling. Fares to South Mumbai start around INR 600-800, and the ride takes 45-90 minutes depending on traffic. **🚇 Metro Line: Fast and Cheap** The Mumbai Metro Line 1 connects the airport to the western suburbs, but it does not go all the way to the city center. For central areas, take an auto-rickshaw or bus from the metro station. A single metro ticket costs INR 10-40, and the ride is quick and air-conditioned. **🚌 AC Bus: Budget-Friendly Option** BEST buses run from the airport to various parts of the city. The A/C buses (routes like A-1, A-2) cost around INR 50-100 and take about 1-2 hours. They are comfortable and have luggage space, but be prepared for traffic delays. **🚗 Ride-Hailing Apps: Uber and Ola** Uber and Ola are widely used and can be booked from the designated pickup zones at the airport. Fares to the city center range from INR 400-900 depending on demand and time of day. Always check the estimated fare before confirming and avoid paying cash if possible. **⚠️ Avoiding Taxi Scams** Beware of touts offering unofficial taxis inside the terminal; always use the prepaid counter or a ride-hailing app. Some drivers may claim the meter is broken or demand extra toll charges. Insist on using the meter or agree on a fixed price before starting the ride. **🕐 Travel Time and Traffic Tips** Mumbai traffic is heavy, especially during peak hours (8-10 AM and 6-9 PM). The drive from the airport to Colaba can take over 90 minutes during rush hour. Plan your trip accordingly, and consider leaving early or using the metro to avoid delays. **🏨 Airport Hotels for Layovers** If you have a long layover, consider staying at the Niranta Transit Hotel inside Terminal 2 or the nearby Holiday Inn. Both offer comfortable rooms and easy access to the terminals. Day rates start around INR 3,000 for a few hours of rest. **💡 Booking Tips for 2026** Book your ride in advance through apps like Uber or Ola to lock in prices and avoid surge charges. For prepaid taxis, carry cash as card payments may not always work. Download offline maps of Mumbai in case of poor network connectivity at the airport.
