**🗺️ Where to Start** Base yourself near the Meenakshi Amman Temple in the heart of the city. Many budget hotels and guesthouses line West Masi Street and Town Hall Road, with rooms starting around ₹1,000 per night. From here, you can walk to most major sights within 15 minutes. **🌅 Day 1 Morning: Temple Tour** Start Day 1 at 6:30 AM to see the Meenakshi Amman Temple before crowds arrive. The temple opens at 5:00 AM, but the main sanctum opens at 6:00 AM. Spend two hours exploring the Hall of Thousand Pillars and the sacred tank, then head to the nearby Thirumalai Nayakkar Palace at 9:00 AM. **🍛 Day 1 Lunch: Local Eats** For lunch, walk to Murugan Idli Shop on North Chitrai Street for authentic South Indian thalis at ₹150 per person. Alternatively, try K. S. Bhavan on West Masi Street for a quick dosa and filter coffee. Both are within a 10-minute walk from the palace. **🏛️ Day 1 Afternoon: Palace & Market** After lunch, return to Thirumalai Nayakkar Palace for the sound and light show at 6:45 PM (tickets ₹50). In between, explore the bustling Puthu Mandapam market along the temple corridor, where you can buy spices, textiles, and brass lamps. Allow 30 minutes to walk between spots. **🌙 Day 1 Evening: Temple Illumination** End Day 1 by watching the Meenakshi Amman Temple illuminated at night. The temple closes at 10:00 PM, and the best view is from the eastern gopuram entrance. Grab dinner at Sree Sabarees on North Masi Street for vegetarian meals under ₹200. **🚌 Day 2: Outskirts & Temples** On Day 2, take a 30-minute bus from Mattuthavani Bus Stand to the Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam, a large temple tank with a central shrine. Then hire an auto-rickshaw (₹300 round trip) to the 12th-century Koodal Azhagar Temple, 15 minutes away. Both are less crowded and free to enter. **🛍️ Day 2 Afternoon: Shopping & Crafts** Return to the city center by 2:00 PM for shopping on Town Hall Road. Visit the Gandhi Memorial Museum (open 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, ₹5 entry) to see historical artifacts. For handloom textiles, head to the Co-optex showroom on West Veli Street, open until 8:00 PM. **🍜 Day 3: Food & Farewell** On your last day, take a morning cooking class at Madurai Meals (₹1,500 per person, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM) to learn local recipes. For a final meal, visit the famous Amma Mess on North Veli Street for their mutton biryani (₹250). Depart from Madurai Junction, which is a 10-minute auto ride from the city center.
