**🍜 Must-Try Local Dishes** Yongji is famous for its beef noodles, a hearty bowl of hand-pulled noodles in a rich beef broth topped with sliced beef and cilantro. Another local favorite is the Yongji-style dumplings, which are smaller and more delicate than northern varieties, often served with a garlicky dipping sauce. Don't miss the street-side grilled skewers, especially lamb and chicken wings, seasoned with cumin and chili powder. For a taste of the region's agricultural bounty, try the fresh persimmons in autumn, sold at roadside stalls for about 5 yuan each. **🏮 Best Streets for Food** The most concentrated food area is around Yongji Old Street (Yongji Lao Jie), where you'll find dozens of stalls and small restaurants open from 10am to 10pm. Another great spot is the night market on Xinhua Road, which comes alive after 6pm with sizzling grills and steaming pots. For a more local experience, head to the morning market near the West Gate, where vendors sell breakfast items like youtiao (fried dough sticks) and soy milk from 6am to 9am. Prices are very affordable, with most snacks costing between 3 and 15 yuan. **🥟 Top Restaurants** For a sit-down meal, try Lao Wang Beef Noodle House at 45 Zhongshan Road, a family-run spot that has been serving its signature beef noodles for over 20 years; a large bowl costs around 18 yuan. Another reliable choice is Yongji Dumpling Restaurant on Renmin Road, near the intersection with Jiefang Street, where a plate of 20 dumplings is about 22 yuan. For something more substantial, the Roast Duck Kitchen on Tuanjie Road offers crispy roast duck at 68 yuan for half a bird, and it's popular with locals for family gatherings. Most restaurants open around 11am for lunch and close by 9pm. **🍢 Street Food Stalls** The street food scene in Yongji is best experienced at the small stalls lining the alleys off Old Street. Look for Auntie Li's stall, easily spotted by its yellow umbrella, which sells fried potato cakes for 4 yuan each and is open from 2pm to 7pm. Another favorite is the grilled squid stall near the bus station on Zhanqian Road, where skewers go for 6 yuan and are grilled to order. For a sweet treat, try the candied hawthorn sticks (tanghulu) sold by vendors near the primary school on Wenhua Road, typically 5 yuan per stick. **🌙 Evening Food Spots** When the sun sets, the night market on Xinhua Road becomes the go-to destination for dinner. From 6pm to midnight, you can find everything from spicy hot pot to grilled fish, with most dishes priced between 10 and 30 yuan. For a quieter evening, the beer garden at the Yongji Hotel on Binhe Road serves local craft beers and snacks like fried peanuts and edamame from 7pm to 11pm. Another option is the barbecue stalls near the river park, where you can enjoy skewers under the stars; a meal for two usually costs around 60 yuan. **💰 Budget and Prices** Food in Yongji is very affordable, even by Chinese standards. A typical breakfast of soy milk and youtiao costs about 5 yuan, while a filling lunch of noodles or dumplings ranges from 15 to 25 yuan. Dinner at a mid-range restaurant will set you back around 40 to 60 yuan per person, and street food snacks are mostly under 10 yuan. Keep in mind that many small stalls and family restaurants only accept cash or WeChat Pay, so it's wise to carry some small bills. **🕒 Timing Your Meals** Lunch in Yongji is typically from 11:30am to 1:30pm, and many popular restaurants fill up quickly, so arrive early or after 1pm to avoid the rush. Dinner starts around 6pm and can go until 9pm, with night markets staying open later. Breakfast options are best between 7am and 9am, especially at the morning market near the West Gate. If you're looking for a late-night bite, the Xinhua Road night market is your best bet, with stalls open until midnight. **🚌 Getting Around** Most of the food areas in Yongji are concentrated in the city center, making it easy to walk between them. The Old Street and Xinhua Road night market are about a 15-minute walk apart, and local buses 1, 3, and 5 all stop nearby. Taxis are plentiful and cheap, with a flagfall of 6 yuan for the first 2 kilometers. If you're heading to the morning market, bus 2 drops you right at the West Gate stop.
