**🍜 Must-Try Local Dishes** Lianyuan's cuisine is built around bold, spicy flavors, with a heavy emphasis on pickled vegetables and chilies. The signature dish is Lianyuan sour meat, a fermented pork dish that is tangy and rich, often steamed with rice flour. Another local favorite is spicy blood tofu, a silky tofu and pork blood stew that packs a punch. Don't leave without trying the stir-fried river snails, which are wok-fried with chili and fermented soybeans for an umami kick. **🏪 Top Street Food Stalls** For an authentic street food experience, head to the night market on Renmin Road, open from 5 PM to midnight. Stall 17, run by Auntie Li, serves the best sour meat skewers for 5 yuan each. Near the Lianyuan Bus Station, you'll find a cart selling spicy blood tofu in paper bowls for 8 yuan, a favorite among locals. The alley behind the Lianyuan Department Store has a stall that makes crispy fried river snails with a secret chili oil blend, priced at 15 yuan per portion. **🏠 Best Local Restaurants** For a sit-down meal, try Xiangwei Restaurant at 88 Jiefang Road, open 11 AM to 9 PM. Their sour meat hotpot is a must-order at 68 yuan, serving two to three people. Another excellent choice is Old Town Flavors at 12 Nanyuan Street, where the spicy blood tofu is made with homemade tofu and costs only 28 yuan. Both restaurants are known for their clean kitchens and friendly service, and reservations are recommended on weekends. **🍲 Hidden Gems Off the Beaten Path** Venture to the village of Shima, 20 minutes by taxi from downtown Lianyuan, to find Grandma Chen's Home Kitchen. This unmarked eatery serves a family-style meal of sour meat, pickled vegetables, and steamed fish for 40 yuan per person. In the eastern district, look for a small noodle shop at 7 Lane 3, Wenhua Road, where the owner makes hand-pulled noodles in a fiery broth topped with braised pork. These spots have no English menus, so bring a translation app or go with a local friend. **💰 Price Ranges and Budget Tips** Street food in Lianyuan is very affordable, with most items costing between 5 and 20 yuan. A full meal at a mid-range restaurant runs 30 to 80 yuan per person, while upscale dining at hotels like the Lianyuan International Hotel can reach 150 yuan per person. For the best value, eat at stalls and small restaurants away from tourist areas. Carry cash, as many vendors do not accept mobile payments or cards. **🚌 Getting to Food Hotspots** The night market on Renmin Road is a 10-minute walk from the Lianyuan Railway Station. To reach Shima village, take bus route 6 from the central bus station to the last stop, then walk 5 minutes. Taxis within the city cost a flat 10 yuan for most trips, and ride-hailing apps like Didi are widely available. Most food stalls are concentrated in the old town area around Nanyuan Street, which is easily explored on foot. **🌙 Best Evening Food Spots** As the sun sets, the night market on Renmin Road comes alive with dozens of stalls serving grilled skewers, fried snacks, and cold beers. For a quieter evening, visit the rooftop terrace at Xiangwei Restaurant, which offers views of the city lights along with their signature sour meat hotpot. Another evening favorite is the riverside barbecue strip on Binhe Road, where you can grill your own meat and seafood at tables set up along the water.
