**🍜 Where to Start** Begin your food journey in the heart of Danyang at the vibrant Jungang Market, open daily from 8 AM to 8 PM. This bustling market is a maze of stalls serving local favorites like bibimbap and tteokbokki, with most dishes priced between 5,000 and 10,000 KRW. Don't miss the famous 'Danyang Ssari' (a spicy fish stew) at the corner stall, a must-try for first-timers. **🥘 Signature Local Dishes** Danyang is renowned for its 'Sogum Gui' (grilled salted mackerel), best enjoyed at the riverside restaurant 'Hanul' (45, Gangbyeon-ro, Danyang-eup). For a unique twist, try the 'Danyang Onion Galbi' at 'Chamnamu Sikdang' (12, Jungang-ro), where sweet local onions complement tender beef ribs. Prices range from 12,000 to 25,000 KRW per person, and reservations are recommended on weekends. **🏮 Hidden Neighborhood Gems** Venture into the narrow alleys of Danyang's old town near the bus terminal to find 'Halmeoni Mandu' (Grandma's Dumplings) at 34, Nokdong-ro, a tiny shop serving handmade dumplings for only 4,000 KRW. Another gem is 'Dosan Sikdang' (8, Dosan-gil), a family-run eatery known for its 'Chueotang' (loach soup), a hearty dish perfect for cooler days. These spots are off the tourist trail but well worth the detour. **🍢 Street Food Stops** Along the riverside promenade near Danyang Station, you'll find evening street food carts offering 'Hotteok' (sweet pancakes) and 'Eomuk' (fish cake skewers) for around 2,000 to 3,000 KRW. For a local specialty, try the 'Danyang Garlic Sausage' from the cart at the entrance to the Dodam Sambong Park, a savory snack that pairs perfectly with the scenic views. These stalls are busiest from 5 PM to 9 PM, so go early to avoid long lines. **💰 Local Prices** A typical meal at a mid-range restaurant in Danyang costs between 8,000 and 15,000 KRW per person, while street food snacks are budget-friendly at 2,000 to 5,000 KRW. For a splurge, the 'Danyang Ssari' set at 'Sobaeksan Sikdang' (22, Sobaeksan-ro) is priced at 30,000 KRW for two and includes side dishes. Tipping is not customary in South Korea, and most places accept credit cards, but keep some cash for market stalls. **🚌 Getting Around** Danyang's city center is compact, so walking is the easiest way to hop between food spots, but for outlying restaurants, take the local bus (routes 1-1, 2-1, 3-1) which runs every 15 minutes from 6 AM to 10 PM. Taxis are affordable, with a base fare of 3,300 KRW, and can be hailed on the street or via the 'Kakao T' app. If you're driving, note that many restaurants offer free parking, but street parking in the market area is limited. **🌙 Best Evening Spots** As the sun sets, head to the 'Danyang River Terrace' (1, Gangbyeon-ro) for a dinner of grilled pork belly with a view of the Namhan River, where tables are set up right on the water. For a more casual evening, join the locals at 'Pocha 24' (15, Jungang-ro), a tent bar serving spicy stir-fried squid and soju until 2 AM. These spots are especially lively during the summer months, so book ahead for a riverside table. **🍵 Sweet Endings** Finish your culinary tour with a visit to 'Danyang Herb Garden Cafe' (5, Chodong-gil), which serves herbal teas and homemade rice cakes in a serene garden setting, with drinks priced from 6,000 KRW. For a modern twist, try the 'Sobaeksan Latte' at 'Cafe Mountain' (18, Sobaeksan-ro), a chestnut-flavored coffee that's a local favorite. Both cafes are open from 10 AM to 9 PM, and they offer takeout if you're heading to the nearby caves.
