the area around the optical valley tech park is worth a look if you want a balance of quiet and convenience. it's mostly residential so you get cheaper rent and a real neighborhood feel, plus the 12路 bus runs straight to the train station in about 20 minutes. there's a decent morning market on 东门外大街 that's good for groceries and the local food stalls are solid, way less touristy than the old town spots

For a six month stay, I'd look at the area around the Danyang High-Speed Railway Station. It's a bit quieter than the city center but you've got direct access to Nanjing and Shanghai for weekend trips, and the 6路 and 18路 buses run frequently into town. The rent is also noticeably cheaper than near the main commercial streets like Kaimai Road, which matters when you're committing to half a year.

honestly if you want actual local life and not just a transit hub, check around the old town near Park Road. way more stuff walkable, better street food, and you can get a cheap scooter or bike to cover the station trips. rent's a bit higher but you'll actually feel like you live there
