**🎉 January: New Year's Day** On January 1, Beihai celebrates New Year's Day with a fireworks display over Silver Beach (Yintan) at 8 PM. The event is free and draws large crowds, so arrive by 6 PM to secure a good spot. Many hotels and restaurants offer special New Year's menus, and the weather is mild, around 15-20°C. Book accommodation in advance as this is peak season. **🏮 February: Spring Festival** Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) falls on February 17 in 2026, with celebrations lasting until February 23. Beihai's Old Street (Zhuhai Road) hosts a traditional temple fair with lion dances, lantern displays, and street food from 10 AM to 10 PM. Expect huge crowds and higher prices for hotels and transport. Book at least a month ahead and prepare red envelopes for good luck. **🏮 March: Lantern Festival** The Lantern Festival occurs on March 3, 2026, marking the end of Spring Festival. In Beihai, the main celebration is at Waisha Island, where locals release floating lanterns onto the sea at dusk. It's a romantic and photogenic event, but be mindful of environmental rules; only biodegradable lanterns are allowed. Arrive early to avoid traffic on the causeway. **🐉 April: Qingming Festival** Qingming Festival (Tomb-Sweeping Day) falls on April 5, 2026. It's a solemn occasion for families to honor ancestors, so tourist activities are limited. However, many parks like Beihai Park are peaceful and less crowded. If you're visiting, respect local customs and avoid loud behavior in cemeteries. **🐉 May: Dragon Boat Festival** The Dragon Boat Festival takes place on June 19 in 2026, but in Beihai, preliminary races and cultural events often start in late May. The main dragon boat race is held on the Beihai River near the Old Street Bridge, starting at 9 AM. Teams from across Guangxi compete, and spectators can enjoy zongzi (sticky rice dumplings) from street vendors. Bring sunscreen and a hat as it's hot and sunny. **🏖️ June: Dragon Boat Festival** The actual Dragon Boat Festival is on June 19, 2026. Beihai's main event is a lively boat race on the Beihai River, with teams racing from 9 AM to noon. The riverside is packed with food stalls selling zongzi and cold drinks. It's a great family-friendly event, but arrive by 8 AM for a good view. **🎶 July: Beihai Music Festival** The Beihai International Music Festival typically runs in mid-July, with dates to be announced for 2026 (likely July 15-20). Concerts are held at the Beihai People's Theater and on Silver Beach, featuring local and international acts. Tickets range from 100 to 500 RMB and sell out quickly. Check the official website for the lineup and book early. **🌕 August: Mid-Autumn Festival** Mid-Autumn Festival falls on September 25 in 2026, but in Beihai, mooncake markets and lantern displays start in late August. The best place to experience the festivities is in the Old Street area, where shops sell traditional mooncakes and lanterns. On the night of the festival, families gather to admire the full moon and eat mooncakes. It's a quieter, more intimate celebration compared to Spring Festival. **🎃 October: National Day** National Day Golden Week runs from October 1 to 7, 2026. Beihai hosts a series of events including beach parties, seafood festivals, and cultural performances. Silver Beach is the epicenter, with fireworks on October 1 at 8 PM. Expect massive crowds and doubled hotel prices, so book months in advance. **🪔 November: Double Ninth Festival** The Double Ninth Festival (Chongyang) falls on October 29 in 2026, but some celebrations extend into early November. In Beihai, it's a day for hiking and enjoying chrysanthemum tea. The best spot is Weizhou Island, where you can join locals in climbing the volcanic hills. It's a low-key event, perfect for nature lovers. **🎄 December: Christmas & Year-End** Christmas is not a traditional Chinese holiday, but Beihai's expat and tourist areas, especially around Silver Beach, host festive dinners and parties on December 24-25. Many hotels offer Christmas buffets from 200 RMB per person. The weather is cool and pleasant, around 15°C. It's a relaxed way to end the year before New Year's Eve celebrations.
