Best coffee near ModViet Cafe in Ho Chi Minh City 2026?

fmd_goodModViet Cafe · #coffee
I'm visiting Ho Chi Minh City in March 2026 and staying a short walk from ModViet Cafe. Is it worth making it my regular spot, or are there better cafes within a few blocks I should try instead? tbh I only passed through HCMC for a few days so take this with a grain of salt, but the little spots tucked down the hem (alleys) near there were way more fun than the named cafes. just wander a block or two off the main road and follow whoever's got the most motorbikes parked out front, thats usually the good sign.

Motorbike count is solid logic but check if they're Grab drivers loitering, that's a different crowd.

Agree, but go before 7am, the hem spots fill up fast.

corner of Nguyen Trai, the one with the old men playing co tuong

the sua da there, cash only

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Correct on cash, though most spots will break a 100,000 note if you ask nicely before ordering.

Those hem spots close after lunch, mornings only

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Fair warning that plenty of those hem spots do a strong ca phe sua da but sit empty by 10, so treat them as an early stop rather than an all-day base.

Yep, most shut by noon.

Order it as sua da if you want it less sweet, the salt still comes through without the sugar hit. It's a small spot so seating fills up fast on weekends. Grab it to go and walk the alley nearby.

The bac xiu, and go before 8am.

Fine pick, but you left out that they close oddly early in the afternoon, so don't treat it as a late stop. And the queue moves faster than it looks, so don't let the crowd scare you off.

arrow_drop_up -4 arrow_drop_down

Bac xiu's the move, cash only though.

arrow_drop_up 11 arrow_drop_down

Skip the sugar syrup entirely if you want the salt to actually register, and bring small notes since they rarely break a 500k.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Cash tip jar also gets you faster service.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Their ca phe muoi is the actual draw.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

only caveat is seating, tiny place

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

Eight is early but you'll beat the office crowd that way.

I've only been there once and got the salted coffee since that's the obvious pick, though the coconut one looked better honestly. A detour from District 1 is a stretch unless you're already nearby.
