8 days in Bangkok, where to stay?

Alright so I know this has been posted before and I've narrowed it down thanks to previous posts although plenty of them are outdated, but I'd like some more specifics from you guys.

I'll go in February with my wife and I'm thinking probably Sukhumvit, but could also consider Riverside. What I'm struggling with as for Sukhumvit is that it's freaking huge! No idea around which Soi would be suitable for us, and I do want to stay in an area that's more quiet during night. That being said we'll definitely be exploring the nightlife so easy access to nice bar areas is a must. We're also interested in visiting Soi Cowboy, Nana plaza and explore that part of Bangkok but when it comes to the location of the hotel, somewhere on the more quiet side. Close to restaurants and street food areas would a huge plus too, as well as easy access to the skytrain.

Any suggestions? Bonus points for adding favourite bars, restaurants, street foods etc. Thanks a bunch!

ngl i'd actually push back on the soi 31/33 rec a bit. those sois are fine but the construction around phrom phong has been nonstop for like 2 years now, you'll hear drilling at 7am. try soi 49 or 55 instead, they're off thong lor so you get the quiet residential vibe but still close to the action. soi 49 especially has that green canopy feel and some proper walkable restaurants like 100 Mahaseth for northeastern thai.

for street food the best spot nobody mentions is the little soi behind the rama 4 big c near asok. there's a muslim lady who does beef curry with roti around 6pm, costs like 40 baht and it's better than half the stuff on khao san. for a chill bar that's not a circus try the bar next to bo.lan on soi 53, it's tiny and the owner makes his own bitters. you're close enough to walk to cowboy in 10 mins if you really want the spectacle but honestly you'll prob just end up staying in thong lor.

Sukhumvit soi 71 is worth a look if you want quiet but connected. It's deep enough that the noise drops off fast but you're a 10 minute walk to Phra Khanong BTS. That station area has one of the best street food spots in the city, the little market under the bridge near W District. Grab a plate of pad see ew from the old lady with the wok, she's been there for years.

For bars, skip the big Soi Cowboy scene and head to Hakata on soi 71 for some Japanese whisky in a calm setting. If you want something livelier, Thong Lor is one BTS stop away and has a strip of rooftop bars like Octave that won't blast your ears out. February weather is perfect for wandering up there.

i'd actually go a bit further out than most people recommend. try staying around ekkamai soi 10 or 12, it's quiet enough that you hear birds in the morning but you're a 3 min walk to ekkamai bts. from there nana is 5 stops and cowboy is 3. the street food on soi ekkamai 21 is ridiculous, there's a guy who does grilled pork skewers with sticky rice for 20 baht and they're better than anything i've had in isaan.

for nightlife that isn't a circus, check out the bar at the back of j avenue on thong lor, it's called find the locker room or something, they do a mean negroni and it's dead quiet. also for a proper meal that's not touristy, go to the food court in the basement of gateway ekkamai, the khao man gai stall is legit and costs like 50 baht. your wife will appreciate being able to walk to the cinema at major ekkamai too, it's got those recliner seats for 200 baht which is a nice break from the heat.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
