New scammer/thief alert ?

So yesterday I met a couple but I don't want to specify the nation..... they asked to take their photo near the BTS ratchathewi elevator. I felt weird cuz ain't no tourist would take photo like that. After the photo they proceed to ask me when I'm from and asking to see Thai Bill... luckily I don't carry any bill with me then I just continue my journey. When I got back to my apartment, I scroll through Facebook and saw a post mentioned that some people got drugged by the same thing I faced. They are asking for the money and they put some kind of substance on to that bill then if u smell it , ur mind will go fucked up.....is this a new thing or it been happening around ?

yeah this bill-sniffing scam has been floating around for a few years now, mostly near tourist-heavy bts stations like ratchathewi and siam. the trick is they spray something on the bill, usually a cheap knockoff sedative, and once you smell it you're out for hours. good call not carrying any cash, that's honestly the best defense. if someone random asks to see your money or wants you to smell something, just walk away, no need to be polite about it.

this has been a thing for a while but it seems like it's getting more common around the bts stations lately. i've heard similar stories from people near chit lom and asok too, not just ratchathewi. the bill thing is weird because they're usually targeting tourists who flash cash but you handled it right by just walking off. fwiw, i always keep my wallet in my front pocket and never pull out bills unless i'm actually paying for something. if someone seems too friendly or pushy around the bts stairs, just ignore and keep moving, no need to engage.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
